Aha. I thought it might be her that you were referring to. Unkel has been good on CBS. And it’s nice to see ITV being “brave” enough to hire someone from a “non-footballing nation“, and a woman at that!

Peacock has also been running $20 for a year as a promotion and I think $3 per month as a different promotion this year. Keep your eyes peeled for deals around the Olympics too.

What makes this guy think that Liga MX and EPL fans will watch USL?

Probably an MLS hater who thinks the soccer watching audience is just itching to see anything that isn't MLS.

I only know of the Euro matches on FS1.
    Slovenia - Denmark 933k.
    Poland - Netherlands 636k

    and the friendly
USA - Brazil 682k on TNT (Is it just me or is this quite low for this level of friendly involving USMNT??)
Argentina - Guatemala 267k on Fox Deportes

    OK got more stuff.
Mystery of low USMNT rating on TNT solved. 1.1 million more on Telemundo. So actually a huge rating for this match. Add 166k on TruTV as well. And 147k more on Universo. WOW.

Argentina vs Ecuador had 187k on Fox Deportes
Mexico vs Brazil had 1.5 million on Univision and 249k on TUDN
USA vs Colombia had 709k on Telemundo and 611k on TNT

And after Clark MLS now definitely trails another league in popularity - as WNBA games NOT involving Clark on ABS now get ~ 1 million views.

MLS TV ratings are irrelevant given that most of the games kick off simultaneously and Fox is a secondary broadcaster.

Apple will be looking at the average engagement between 7:30 pm and 1 am Eastern.

As the NBA deal showed, national TV is still the big money maker in this country. Though there is nothing comparable to MLS Season Pass in any other sports so the comparison is now murky.

It didn't work because almost nobody was watching the local broadcasts. Now Apple TV has all the local broadcasts in one place, but I fail to see how that would drive more eyeball toward them. The success of Apple TV seems like it was first driven by promotions such as the TV deal and then by some dude named Lionel. Doesn't matter, MLS is getting paid regardless, but there is still concern for the long term future. Viewership number need to continue to be grown, be that on Fox or Apple.

It's doing just fine and will continue to do just fine. It'll be interesting to see what the next step will be once we hit the early 2030s.

Can you provide a reasonable explanation of why people didn't watch when they could for "free" as part of their cable packages, but now want to pay separately for it? I know the numbers are currently fine, but nobody ever explained how it could be for any reason other than getting it free, or for Messi.

It was difficult in Houston to watch the local coverage. They were on an assortment of local low-power stations, alternate OTA network channels, and an RSN, exclusive to one cable provider, that would shift Dynamo games to their alternate channel or tape-delay them.

So "free" if you could tune in your antenna or had the right cable provider with nothing going on with the basketball and baseball teams.

I want to see my team play, it comes to about $2.00 per match. I don't have cable.
