I think this is fair but within the context of the short squads if Spaletti wants to get a look at different options as the season and their form dictates there will be quality players left home every round. I am not for or against Belanova/Savona at this stage but I am a fan of the short squad and being open minded to keeping the bottom half of the group after the core players competitive and ever changing. We still have the entirety of the qualifiers and a year and a half until the world cup so who knows what the squad will look like then. It seems like a new crop of players are emerging every round. Regardless of selection I think we can all be happy that we actually have enough quality players now that many are being left home. This was not the case for the better part of the last 10 years. I think the burrier to entry will only increase and we will actually be at a place where we can have opinions on why so and so quality players are not right over so and so. Happy days.
FWIW Buongiorno has graded so far as the 2nd best CB in Europe top 5 leagues this season behind Orban of RB Leipzig.
That tackle he made on Pavard was amazing and he pocked Thuram throughout the game. Our best defense could be Bastoni---Buongiorno---Calafiori but sadly it prolly will never get tried.
Earlier comment about dropping wingers for this system. Yes, of course, going to need a clear set of ideas and tactics for each match. But match winners still have a place in this game. This season might turn into a write-off but I have no doubts Chiesa's time isn't over with the NT. If 1v1 and match winners is the topic, it screams Chiesa. I've purposely cut down my calcio viewing as other things take priority. I stuck to the Juve match only last weekend and bypassed Camarda's start and the posticipo. Had no idea Buongiorno was putting up good grades. Long may it continue.
Totally agree about Chiesa, Spalletti will definitely call him again its just you cant call him up when he is not being called up by his team, so hopefully soon he gets things situated with Liverpool. Their coach already said after the international break. Especially when your other support strikers are Raspadori, Kean, and Maldini, his time will soon come. Buongiorno and Acerbi were prolly the two best players in that match. Acerbi is amazing against strong strikers like Haaland and Lukaka, but I can't take him seriously bc he gets burned by pace. Buongiorno was a rock for Napoli, Costacurta even came out and named him the heir to Chiellini. It'll be good to see him alongside his Napoli partner and Bastoni for these matches.
Bastoni has wonderful chemistry with Dimarco on the left, Calafiori has played on the right for Arsenal, it could be perfect to play all 3 but Spalletti's son screws everything up. Once Scalvini returns to form (he is already training way ahead of schedule!), it will be super interesting to see who starts when you have 4 world class defenders along with Spalletti's son.
Oristanio has the most successful dribbles in Serie A. Like I said posts ago, he is improved a lot under Di Francesco who seems to do good with these types of wingers
I have less of a problem with Venezia than some of you. You can expect them to start 3-4 Italians every game. This cannot be said of both Torino and Udinese. If Ricci and Lucca don’t play, they have no Italians
Rumoured lineup. If this is accurate, I really like Spalletti’s approach with Rovella. It’s sink or swim
Yep, the angle of my Venezia comment was specifically because I project them to be relegated and I don't want Oristanio to be saddled with Serie B at the age of 22-23.
this makes sense I was wondering what he was thinking for the false 10 role since he did not call Bresicanini Baldanzi Zacagni Pellegrini Zaniolo etc. Barella makes sense and this is something I've wanted to see tried so we could get a midfield of Ricci Tonali Fratessi Barella. The thing is you're going to dominate most midfields in the world like that with a 4 man midfield and wingbacks as well as ball playing centre backs. That's a nightmare for opposition. It also free's up Fratessi to focus on making runs into the box.
Far too many examples of youngish Italian players having a good debutante season in A only for their team to get relegated to B and never heard from again. Simome Bastoni, Andrea Cistana, Andrea Papetti. Luca Zannamachia, Salvatore Esposito...Never fails
Yeah Barella can play any midfiled role but it makes little sense to waste his talents at Regista when he has some pretty creative attacking chops as well. I like this rumored lineup and am curious how Rovella looks with this much talent around him even if I personally prefer Locatelli.
Yeah, Barella in that position seems real off. Wouldn't it make sense to put Kean there and put Barella where Rovella is slotted in?
I think he prefers to play with an extra midfielder behind the striker when the opponent is strong. This is what I understand. Otherwise he could use Raspadori (who plays really well when playing with Italy). I am not sure that Barella can play there! I wish he will! It will be better I think if we played Barella or Fratessi in their natural position and use the other one as a super sub.
Look at Kean up there as well. As I said, he does have the ability to take his man on - showed it at PSG as well.
makes it more of a Inter 352 with Kean which could work but i think he wants the midfield overload. maybe Barella and Fratessi will take turns making runs into the box. It's basically a 361 that becomes a 343 with DiMarco and Cambiaso pushing up into the wide forward positions. We have nearly everything but are still missing that true 10. Yes Raspadori can do it but we still need between now and 2026 someone like Baldazni Bresicanini Maldini Zaniolo Pafundi long shot but Liberali Zeroli to break through and take that position as a creative link. Trying Barella there is worth a shot this round.
Swiss have a 93% chance of being in the top seed group for World Cup Qualifiers. Will know for sure after the weekend. If they falter they will drop to Pot 2 and Italy could potentially fish them out in December's Draw. Part of me wants another crack at them.
dominating the ball early it's a nightmare to play against us when we are set up like this. fantastic goal. its amazing how well Spaletti figured out his tactics post euro's. this tactically my most preferred Italy to watch since 2006. Mancini's Italy was incurable to watch especially when Spinazolla was cooking but I prefer this just as a fan. I just love the advantage of our wingbacks and the quality of our midfield as well as our mobile centre backs. it looks almost easy.
