And, we are locked. The last GW of the competition is here, and the entries are in (along with the current scores):

    Computer --- -- -- FCE -- TA -- RN -- SG -- -- 21
    Journeymen -- -- FCE -- SG -- RN -- TA -- -- 20
    tarvinodos -- -- -- SG -- FCE -- RN -- TA -- -- 19
    Sonabert --- -- -- TA -- FCE -- SG -- RN -- -- 13
    DrHeckle --- -- -- No Entry -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 12
    lobomojo --- -- -- TA -- RN -- SG -- FCE -- -- 11
    GloryDaze -- -- -- RN -- SG -- FCE -- TA -- -- 11
    blech -------- -- -- RN -- FCE -- SG -- TA -- -- 10
    scottk964 ---- -- -- FCE -- SG -- RN -- TA -- -- 10
    Hal ------------ -- -- No Entry -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 10
    kopiteinkc -- -- -- FCE -- RN -- SG -- TA -- -- 9
    Bilbo43 ------- -- -- SG -- FCE -- RN -- TA -- -- 7

I switched to FCE rather than EP for FC Epikoinis, and the rest of the two letter descriptions should be easily enough understood for Real Newark, Stormin Gunners and Tangers FC. I wouldn't call it a consensus, but with three #1s plus the computer's "vote", FCE is the most-picked #1, while TA ends up as the clear #4 projection.

For the final random generator, the computer said 2-1-4-3, and with no matches to Sonabert's 1-2-3-4, that means that Sonabert still has a longshot of jumping from 4th to 1st with a perfect score as Sonabert's picks also don't match at all with Journeymen and only coincide once with Tarv.

And, an interesting mixture of predictions on the board among the computer, Journeymen, and tarvinodos as they jockey in the 1, 2, 3 positions. All three have RN at #3. Journeymen and tarv agree on 3/4, but flip on 1/2, so that will resolve things between them, while the computer and Journeymen agree on 1/3, but flip on 2/4, opening the door for Journeymen to jump top with the perfect score.

The rest of us play for pride.

    The GW18 scores are in:
    FC Epikoinis ------ 36
    Stormin Gunner -- 22
    Tangers FC ------- 21
    Real Newark ------ 8

It was a somewhat crazy week, with FC Epikoinis sitting last in the All Rocks table but coming out on top of the Rank 4 scores. With only 6 games being played, we knew going in that it would largely be a game of getting minutes, and FCE did well in that category.

FCE fielded 9 players who got playing time, with the necessary points largely coming from the clean sheets for Leno and the MCI duo of Stones and Cancelo. Good enough to finish top by a safe margin. It was close for second, but Stormin' Gunners also fielded 9 players with playing time, and even though they had nothing to show of significance other than a de Gea clean sheet, it was enough to have just sent out warm bodies.

Tangers fielded 4 players with playing time, but hit the jackpot with 9 for GK Ramsdale and 8 for FUL mid Cavaleiro, a somewhat unusual way to land 3rd, while Real Newark slid to the bottom, fielding only 5 players who got any minutes, and with one of those being Sterling's -1 effort as a sub who missed a PK.

    FINAL STANDINGS......
    Journeymen -- 6 -- FCE -- SG -- RN -- TA -- -- 26
    Computer --- -- 3 -- FCE -- TA -- RN -- SG -- -- 24
    tarvinodos -- -- 0 -- SG -- FCE -- RN -- TA -- -- 19
    scottk964 ---- -- 6 -- FCE -- SG -- RN -- TA -- -- 16
    Sonabert --- -- 2 -- TA -- FCE -- SG -- RN -- -- 15
    GloryDaze -- -- 2 -- RN -- SG -- FCE -- TA -- -- 13
    DrHeckle --- -- 0 -- No Entry -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 12
    kopiteinkc -- -- 3 -- FCE -- RN -- SG -- TA -- -- 12
    lobomojo --- -- 0 -- TA -- RN -- SG -- FCE -- -- 11
    blech -------- -- 0 -- RN -- FCE -- SG -- TA -- -- 10
    Hal ------------ -- 0 -- No Entry -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 10
    Bilbo43 ------- -- 0 -- SG -- FCE -- RN -- TA -- -- 7

Journeymen and scottk got the first two right, and then flipped 3 and 4, coming away with the high scores of 6 for the week, which was enough for Journeymen to take top spot. Tarv came up blank and has to settle for third.

    Thanks for playing.

It was an interesting trial run. I think it is hard to get the perfect score any week as anything can always happen, but I'll confess that I thought I'd do better. And, I thought we'd do better as a group. The lower end was skewed a little by Dr. Heckle and Hal dropping out part way through, but over half of the entrants scored 12 or fewer, which only requires getting ONE pick right each week! Far more 0 scores each week than I would have expected.

Any thoughts on how we change the rules or scoring or anything else if we were to do it again?

Many thanks for running the comp blech and I would like to take this opportunity and platform to dedicate this win to all of humanity.

I'm still not really sure how a computer gained entry but that footie predicting machine was good, real good.

I imagine the Matrix started out this way, I suppose this is a sign of things to come.

    Having recently rewatched the Die Hard films I feel compelled to leave a final comment for the computer and I'll roll with this;

    "in your circuit board computer"

Hi blech. To make sure you get proper feedback. This was great to have especially with the frantic holiday fixtures and keeping things fresh. Kind of like a bonus check.

It was fun to see how much I screwed up on the final picks. Hindsight I guess.

Also, was good to have a competition across leagues and watch the transfer movement.
