Balogun was 1v1 with the keeper from seven yards out. That's not really the point though.

Tillman has PLENTY of time to become an important player for the US. It's not like he's been been shit across the board. To the contrary, he's shown bags of talent, including YESTERDAY against PSG. It's batshit crazy to suggest that Poch shouldn't work with him as he builds his roster.

5 starts and not a single good one. 16 caps and not a single good one.

How many starts and caps until you can form an opinion?

I don’t consider Jan camp a NT camp. It’s off season training for domestics.

It's batshit crazy to keep giving him USMNT opportunities after 16 abysmal caps. There's only so many minutes and caps to go around.

How many turd performances do you get, without any good ones, before you stop getting called up?

Plenty when the player is a locked in starter and quite productive while playing for the best PSV squad in 20 years.

I think it would carry value for Luna if he was called in to back to back senior international camps though even if we both agree Cupcake is mostly nonsense (indeed Klinsmann recently claimed Cupcake only exists because of television rights deals for games in that month, but that he saw some tangible value in it beyond training up MLS guys as it was where he was able to identify a handful of domestics that became a key part of the team circa 2012-2016).

You didn't answer my question. How many caps until you can form an opinion? or since your preferred metric is "minutes" - lol, that's a new one - how many "minutes" until you can form an opinion?

I already have my opinion based upon his form with PSV. I want him in the pool. Am I giving him starts? Unlikely. Am I giving him call ups? Yes. I want to see if Poch can figure out how to maximize his talent. It may simply be exclusive to certain positions or approaches, it may be particular to player availability (I want to start Balo when we have Reyna available, when we don't I lean more Pepi), but I want to see what he can do with him over time. He may decide he's surplus to requirements and push him out of the pool in '25, he may not. We'll see.

If you want a specific minutes or starts #, it comes down to this: so long as what I see with PSV is damn good, I'm gonna want Poch and him to figure out how to translate that. If his form over substantial sample size goes straight to crap, I wouldn't call him.

He's had one camp with Poch. I'd like to see him at least a couple more before discarding him given his form for PSV.

    Who is he blocking?

"He's had one camp with Poch" is a convenient new excuse to excuse several poor camps with GGG.

Hey, Alan Sonora hasn't had any camps with Poch guys!

Who is he blocking? Any number of players. As poor as he's shown, he's not a viable option. So either a player conventionally rated below him deserves a chance or the formation needs to change to eliminate his position.

Aaronson has proven himself to far more useful to the USMNT than Tillman.

Aaronson had 5 goals and 3 assists through 16 caps and put in many good shifts. He always puts in effort and works hard.

Tillman has been abysmal in every game he's played for the USMNT. He doesn't score or assist and doesn't work hard.

The question for Tillman with the USMNT:

I completely agree even calling Luna in would be a positive.

My guess is if he isn’t called by March then he accepts a callup from Mex.

It’s really weird how some think new coaches place a fair amount of stock in what a player did under a different coach and system.

It’s a factor but nowhere near the top factor.

Coaches project what they can do with a player’s profile.

Me too. I didnt even consider him much of a risk in '23 when he was excellent at the U20 WC, but since then we've really did a piss poor job of handling him, first as the Olympic level and now, very briefly anyway, at the senior level. He needs to be called in period, in November, and January.

I would actually say I think it's an ego thing where they can figure it out because they're better. I agree that Tillman has been very disappointing and also haven't given up on him. He does need to figure it out fairly quickly as someone else gets a shot if he doesn't because there's not unlimited time to experiment. Surely as long as Poch has coached he'll figure it out quickly. Perhaps an intriguing question is if Pulisic is that guy if ACM starts playing him there and he looks good. Then the question would become who's the winger who gets to start?

We should definitely give up on the 22 year old who is 8th on this list based on 500 minutes

Fools gold. Goals against tiny clubs playing on the most dominant team in the country. Others are team based stats or speculative market values.

Been horrific for the usmnt in his 545 minutes. Unplayable really. How many chances is sufficient before you accept it's not happening with him?

No PSV player has won as many balls against Paris Saint-Germain as Malik Tillman (8). Analysis of the draw in Paris based on the surprising role of Tillman, who successfully replaced Jerdy Schouten. Number 6 or number 10? In the eyes of PSV's sporting directors, those positions require similar qualities. That is the reason why Jerdy Schouten was brought in last season as a replacement for Ibrahim Sangaré. If you want to dominate matches, replace the defensive midfielder with a controlling midfielder.
"One of the things that Peter Bosz and I have in common is that we see the number 6 as the new number 10 in football," said technical director Earnest Stewart after winning the league title. In modern football, the playmaker can be found in front of the defence for a short time, to shape the build-up. In that view, it is logical that Bosz and his staff propose to Luuk de Jong on Monday evening to give Tillman the role of Schouten. Olivier Boscagli and Mauro Júnior have been sloppy on the ball in the Eredivisie as controllers. Against the intensity of Paris Saint-Germain, Bosz therefore opts for the 'football-smart' solution with Tillman. Remarkably, the creative person in the Parc des Princes stands out mainly by conquering balls.

    Honestly......

After watching the game, I don't think he was good vs. PSG. He had a handful of moments that kruck would have been losing his mind over. There is also, very obviously, a tremendous player there.

Propose to Luuk de Jong??? Does de Jong control the player selection and tactics? In that case, Pepi needs to leave sooner, rather than later.

Yep, thought he should have left this past summer and failing that, by winter unless things change dramatically. They haven't, although for the first time in eons they actually gave De Jong a game off. If I'm Pepi, I'd definitely look for a loan in the winter and to leave outright in the summer regardless of Luuk's status. Two years at PSV training has its own value, he shouldn't risk a third in my view. I'm open to that being stupid? It could be, but I also think his development has been slowed by getting stuck with a club that's got a monster stud at striker.

Why does Malik T looks so good for PSV and so bad for USMNT? We've seen enough of him in the US kit to question what the heck dude?

    I think it's fools gold.

Playing at the "10" for PSV Eindhoven is one of the most enviable positions in world football. You are playing in the most dominant side in one of the most attacking leagues in Europe.

He's scored against minnows in the Eredivisie this season. Almere City [17th], RKC Waalwijk [18th] and Fortuna Sittard [11th].

He has no goals or assists in the CL.

I suspect if/when Tillman goes to a top 5 league, especially if he goes to a bottom half team, he's gonna do one of these:
