I was following this late development like a hawk until dinner duties and 3 Day weekend bourbons interfered and now . . . Damn, Eduteta pulled the trigger!

With Reiss going on loan, this makes sense.

Glad it's only a loan, and not a 3 year deal on whatever wages he stooped to.

    Up the Arsenal!

I'm pretty down on Jesus and don't see how they can get thru next summer without signing a 9. If Havertz does what you say could be a younger 9 with upside and go more established at wing, maybe Isak's teammate Gordon?

Supposedly we have shown interest in Gordon and may be planning to go for him next summer.

If Havertz has a good go this season, I think a younger understudy makes too much sense. Prefer to stick with a taller option. Maybe Ferguson, Sesko, Hlozek,....

Terrific deal and a complete no brainer. Wouldn’t have minded an option to buy, but I suppose that wasn’t on the table if Chelsea was eating a portion of his wages.

Chelsea era Sterling is a more than capable backup who’ll be able to start for ah extended period. City era Sterling would be best case and we’d be getting a superstar in that scenario.

In a so-called off-year for Sterling last year, he had more npXg+xA per 90 than Martinelli has had in the last two seasons

    agreed.

i only hated the idea because of his vast wages. but if we are only paying 50% and no loan fee this is a great deal.

i was looking back at his career and it’s easy to forget how good he was at City. and even post peak he is still a great player.

Not that you would run him as a ST especially with Havertz form, but also Jesus, but Sterling can run anywhere across the front three.

    Happy with this loan.

I'm a bit more upbeat about our window after adding quality depth in the front 3, especially because we seem to have made a deal where we get Raheem for a reasonable package and only for 1yr.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday and they made an interesting point that a wingers peak years are generally at age 28/29 but in Raheems case his "football age" is more like a 34yr old in terms of minutes played in his career. A one year loan with no but obligation is more than fair

Is it worth a stab at signing Rabiot at this stage? I know we will be overloaded whenever Merino is ready to contribute but at the moment the league could be in danger of slipping away by then.

Downsides of course are his financial demands and the fact that there will be zero reimbursement when he is used up. How much do we want to win the Prem... I'm still not sure that Arteta is going to trust Nwaneri with meaningful minutes. His size doesn't fit into his tactical gameplay

This is fully absurd (swiss ramble)

Premier League – Last 3 Years
Extending the analysis to cover three years shows that Chelsea have spent exactly £1.5 bln, which is an unprecedented amount in such a short timeframe. This was more than twice as much as any other club with the next highest being Manchester United £678m, Arsenal £608m, Tottenham £578m and Manchester City £517m.

In other words, over a longer time period the financial might of the Big Six is more clearly seen, with the only outlier being Liverpool, whose £356m was only 13th highest in the Premier League.

The highest expenditure outside the Big Six came from West Ham £482m, Nottingham Forest £420m and Brighton £411m.

Think this analysis has to take wage bill into account.

Too low, City pay close to £200m a year in wages alone.

3 years covers 4 summer transfer windows, I think this is gross spending.

At age 29, Arsenal would have had to strongly consider an offer if it had come in time to buy a replacement. Obviously too late now.

Ornstein reported a loan with an obligation to buy, why would Saudi clubs need to do that?

It is gross spending. While Brighton have a negative net spend of approximately £180m this summer, they made enough money on transfers in each of the prior three windows that their net spend is approximately zero.

It's from Swiss Ramble so high quality - this one is only on transfer spending

But usually he does talk about combined spending

Yes. It helps explain why the dumpster fire that is Chelsea are still trying to move players to leagues whose transfer windows aren’t closed, while Brighton continue to be a well run club, who drive hard bargains.

But I was only using Brighton to demonstrate that the numbers were gross spend, not net spend.

Yeah, it would be insane for us to sell him, no? Maybe for double that money we'd have a little think?? Or in January if we can replace him. But still... fvck off!

p.s. See if this tidbit from today's Arsecast surprises you on first read, as it did me? Raheem is 4 days younger than Leo.
