He certainly would've looked better than he has. He did best for parma outwide in a 4-3-3. Either way he probably could've been worth his contract at that point. The team wasn't setup that way though, and he was outplayed creatively by a guy we picked up on a free that had just been kicked off his old team due to bad form over multiple seasons. Hardly a ringing endorsement of his talent and mentality.
I meant centre as in main man. Maybe he couldn't handle it, although it just seemed he was never given the full backing. Pirlo is a unique player, he does call for a team to likewise build a team around him and he was the safer bet.
When we first got him it didn't look that way. Conte switched from his 4-2-4 to the 3-5-2 just based on his preseason training. It was a pretty big risk considering everyone thought Pirlo was done. Giovinco wasn't getting much love in the 4-2-4 either though as he didn't help enough defensively.
A buddy of mine is convinced that it's going to be $7m/season for 5 years. I haven't bothered to check sources so don't know if that's official, but if it is he's the highest paid Italian in the world on a team that will make him the go to player. Not a bad gig. He may get to return for a few months to play in Europe like Beckham did if it all works out. If true, $7 million a year is hard to turn up. @vesuviani you must have heard what he's going to be paid by now?
Supposedly part of it is he was making 2.2m euros post tax in Italy and its $7m U.S. pretax. That'd still be doubling his salary though...
good on Giovinco, he's probably gonna tear up the MLS, as long as the Toronto FC coach isn't stupid, build the team around him, not Bradley or Altidore....
The Atomic Ant as he is known in Italy will reportedly make 7M$ US net per year plus [up to] 3M$ in bonuses http://rbtlsports.com/giovinco-tfc-shake-hands/ That's what I've been seeing across the web. This one says net salary though. That would have him taking home 3x what he made at Juve per year
They won't be for long handed out money like that. Are these people clueless on how to build a football team? Have a few overpaid players mixed with shit gets you know where. Why don't they start year on year bringing in 3-4 good players and building a squad. They could easily scout Belgium, denmark, sweden etc and get top players who would make a real difference.
You just described mls tbh la magica, you get 3 good to great players and mix them with fodder and it's called parity
The league has so many wacky rules about player acquisitions and priorities. Who can sign whom from draft orders, who gets the next allocated national team players and other bullshit. It makes no sense.
Lol. Dude you seriously don't know enough about the MLSE. The Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team doesn't even need to make the playoffs and they're sold out every single game cheapest ticket is on is almost $200. Trust me these guys have cash to burn for a long long time. I don't want to start getting into hockey but its the Toronto Maple Leafs that practically keep the NHL afloat. Personally they drove me away from even watching the game anymore. The organisation has no ambition to win the Stanley Cup because they already make money continually every year always turning in big profits
I wouldn't support a money grabbing organisation either. So if the figures for Gio are correct how much do they have left to spend on the rest of the squad? Its capped right?
This I don't know. But I heard something about him being a designated player. Not sure if that had anything to do with salary caps and what not.
I think DP's salaries only count 175k towards the cap, but you are limited to 3 per team or something
they asked me to come and be Giovinco's minder when he arrives in canAIDSia, i said sure why not, so who is coming drinkin when i arrive in your big old gay continent?
