Maybe, but France nonetheless managed to get themselves into the more difficult half of the bracket for the knockout stages. Big reward for Austria by winning the group and getting to play the #2 team from group F.

Why was Lewandoski allowed to stop, then start during his run-up to the PK? I thought the rule change was stuttering was ok so long as you didn't stop your motion. He came to a complete stop in both of his attempts.

It is a weird rule. As long as do do not come to a complete stop before you kick then it is okay. He did that weird foot dangle (left foot) right before he kicked so technically it counts.

FIFA needs to look at that rule. That was ridiculous.

    Camavinga for Rabiot would help.

This tournament has highlighted that FIFA need to look at several rules/laws.
    - the PK technique.
    - goalkeeper interference (the law might already be clear on that, and VAR just got it wrong for FRA-NED)
    - Handball immediately before creating a goal (define "immediately")

I know there were others but can't recall now.

Yeah, I don't get the "foot dangle" thing. What's to keep someone else from saying "My junk was swinging?" If you're not moving forward, you've stopped, IMHO.

Well most people do not shoot a penalty with their crotch.:D
I have seen people kick a penalty with their other foot to fool a keeper though so as long as it is in movement I suppose it is alright.
At least according to the rules.

  10. Well, the rules say nothing how long the moving towards the ball has to be, so you could move at a snail pace.

Maybe the goalkeeper should be allowed to come off his line if the penalty taker comes to a stop. That seems fair and of course that is what happened with the Lewandowski penalty. It kind of seems right that he outsmarted himself and had his penalty saved the first time.
