Very interesting, mate. It had the late Natalio Gorin working for ‘la hoja’; he would work for El Gráfico and later become a critic of Maradona, although also admittedly considered him the best player he ever witnessed, particularly at Argentinos Juniors.
I wasn’t a fan of his style but just for reference, Natalio Gorin was the journalist that rated for El Gráfico the final of the 1990 World Cup between Argentina and West Germany, and also covered the 1986, 1994 and ‘98 World Cups.
They do but do you have the ratings from those years? I tried mate, but it seems that the original copies came out blurry from that twitter account. I just copied it and pasted here but the resolution was the same on Oscar Banarde’s account.
They started rating games from 1 to 5 in 1979. Here's their first rating of Maradona, a 5/5 against Vélez for the 3rd match of the Metropolitano (words are a little messed up due to the imperfect OCR but understandable enough). Their ratings from 1979 are very scarce in Oscar Barnade's thread though, some match commentaries or news regarding Diego do appear but that's the only rating from Clarín that year that I could find. Their ratings in 1979 are not cited in 'Maradona, Obras Completas', but they do appear afterward during his Argentine football years and games with Argentina with the usual 1-10 system.
In the book there are only for the seasons 1980 and 1981 They are very similar to el Gráfico https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W1arUmQExnP2kSLnh8dxIRkoTvJcIYwd/view?usp=sharing
Yes, excellent work and contributions by you guys. Thanks! Any additional info or advice I’ll let you guys know.
The rating of ‘Hoja del lunes’ from Oscar Banarde’s account. Diego obtained the grade of a 7. Unfortunately the images don’t come out clear.
There goes the first ratings of the newspaper of Clarín, courtesy of Oscar Banarde and thanks to @Double Six
With no additional ratings available in the previous rounds from Oscar Banarde’s twitter account, the next available info returned against River Plate, in what was perhaps Diego’s finest performance in the campaign, where El Gráfico rated him with a 10 out of 10. Oscar Banarde’s additional information pertains to the ratings of Clarin, where Diego received a 5/5 rating. In the newspaper on his account it reads that Clarin printed: “River se rindió ante el genio"; "Maradona el alumno humilde de Pelé". Dos títulos a doble página en Clarín. Translated, “River surrendered in front of a genius”. “Maradona the humble student of Pelé”
As noted by ‘La Hoja del lunes’, from Oscar Banarde’s twitter account, the tight and disciplined man-marking job from Moralejo, who shadowed Diego all over the pitch, not allowing him an inch of space with the newspaper headlining, “And Maradona didn’t touch it”… “He followed him to even where he drank water”… Diego, as previously noted, shouldn’t have played this match as he was not 100 percent fit.
In what had been Diego’s best performance for the NT up until this point, Oscar Banarde’s twitter account provided ‘La Hoja del lunes’ and their view on this Maradona play: “To trim and save” … in reference to the run that Diego produced on the left flank eluding every player in his wake. The final shot would be cleared off the line.
Something interesting, in the new serie of Maradona, it is mentioned that he made 21 assists in the first two seasons They took the number from Wikipedia, and I think I can confirm 100% that this number is incorrect
On 27/10/1976, Maradona played with the Argentine youth national team against Defensores de Belgranos' 3rd division. Thanks to the information gathered by Marcelo Baffa, later given to Roberto Glucksmann, who in turn revealed the information to Oscar Barnade, it's now known that Diego scored a goal in Argentina's 4-0 win in that game. On 10/11/1976 Maradona playing for the youth national team faced the Combinado Liga Rosarina, with the final score being 6-4 in favor of the national team. The specifics apart from the lineups and the scores both in the first (6-0) and second (6-4) halves are lost, but according to what Daniel Teglia told Carlos Durhand, Maradona scored 'several goals' in that game. Clarín also said that the best player in the match was Diego Maradona. A lot of people attended the game. And on 26/11/1976, Maradona played for the youth national team against the main national team, at La Candela. Menotti's side won 3-0. All of this was taken from Oscar Barnade's Twitter thread.

And Goles magazine gave him a 6 And Goles magazine gave him a 10/10 rating, the text isn't easy to comprehend, but you already translated it so I assume you managed to find a better version. Goles magazine gave Maradona a 6 Goles magazine gave Maradona a 7 as well, also being the MoTM.
Hello @Vegan10 your thread was very helpful for a project of mine but as you've now stopped it, I wanted to know how I could access those archives to see the match ratings of Diego with his national team, I also need minute played data which should be available there. Thank you
Some time ago, I collected all the ratings of the 1986/87 season of Napoli (the first Scudetto in the club's history). These ratings include Serie A and UEFA Cup matches and the Coppa Italia finals. Source of ratings: La Stampa of Turin. 6,43 Francesco Romano 6,36 Ciro Ferrara 6,30 Claudio Garella 6,28 Salvatore Bagni, Alessandro Renica 6,23 Diego Maradona 6,11 Ciro Muro 6,10 Giuseppe Volpecina 6,06 Bruno Giordano 6,00 Giuseppe Bruscolotti, Fernando De Napoli 5,98 Moreno Ferrario 5,92 Andrea Carnevale 5,80 Luciano Sola 5,76 Luigi Caffarelli
Hi mate, most of that info is accessed through private collectors that conserved their papers throughout the years since apparently there’s no access to the sources online.
