You're right. He's here to stay for at least another cycle, unless he himself chooses another job.

He is stubborn, though. He left Angel off the Sudamericano roster. Angel who has been the team's leading scorer during the whole process leading up to that tournament. Angel who, as the world saw, is infinitely more advanced than Cabezas, Caraballo, and Zuleta--each of whom might never score more than a couple gols in their careers. For what? If not stubbornness, than it's complete idiocy. Either quality is not good.

The job is a tough one, no doubt. BUT, it's not that the position isn't highly paid. It's that the Fed keeps choosing coaches who don't demand high pay. Did you have any idea who Restrepo or Reyes were before they got hired? I sure as hell didn't. These were dudes who could only find jobs in central American leagues. Cardenas has only managed a first division side twice, for about 6 months a piece. They're nobodies.

Of course, we have a Fed who hired Carlos f'n Queiroz because he cost about half of what Pekerman did. This is what we're dealing with. Crooks who cut corners every which way, never considering the benefits of deep investments.

Hell, they could have had Lorenzo become the sub 20 coach for pennies more back in the day. I'm sure he and Pekerman suggested it. But that would have essentially given Pekerman total control of everything. They'd never do that. Out Fed does not want to cough up money if it doesn't have to, and they most DEFINITELY do not want guys who make demands and bring their own philosophies.

We're doomed with Cardenas or somebody interchangeably like him.

I kinda mentioned this in the FIFA forum but we should have no complaints about the two teams in the Final.
Uruguay is the only team that beat us in the Sudamericano. Italy is the only team to beat us in W.C.
They were clearly better overall teams that knew how to win in big situations.

Basically everyone is better than Reyes. But it doesn't mean that Cardenas is a good coach. Our football under him wasn't good. Not in the Sudamericano, not in preparation and not in the WC, besides the game vs Slovakia. If you remember, with Piscis we won the Sudamericano, yet we all here were bitching about his style (with justice).
so yes, I agree with what you said and the main goal of an U20 team, however, it doesn't mean that Cardenas did a good job. With the potential this team has, I expected them to reach at least the semis and even if not, I expected them to play much much better.
I won't be so sad if Cardenas is reappointed, I just don't think that he deserves it.

Technically... it's not a final. Unless we are considering the 3rd place match as a final.. which I don't.

He's been called up regularly by Spain's youth system so I would be surprised if he chose us or Spain didn't call him up to the senior side.

He has yet to officially give up his senior association with Colombia since he's only been in the youth teams.

Without an official appearance with the senior team at an official tournament, he's not tied to either nation.

The commentators seem to love that Perea kid.
I was not as impressed. He seems to play more like a Central American than a Colombian.
For his age though I guess he is okay.
