Also we're talking about an obvious goal-scoring opportunity right? Not an obvious goal. I don't know how that's not an obvious opportunity. Maybe the striker would have bottled it. Maybe the ball gets stuck under his foot. But the opportunity is absolutely there.
I agree with @MassachusettsRef on the principle that some things are different at different levels. When I'm reffing games with 9-year-olds who lack the strength and coordination they'll have in a few years, I'm less inclined to think a foul is deliberate. (The fact that the typical 9-year-old immediately says she's sorry and asks if the other player is OK also weighs into that decision. I'll accept the consensus take here that this *would* be considered DOGSO under prevailing interpretations of the LOTG. I don't accept that it *should* be. In other words -- had this been a foul and red was given, I'd understand. If I magically lose 30 pounds and 20 years while quintupling the amount of experience I have so that I'm reffing a pro game, I'll give the red card myself. I just wouldn't like it.
Put aside thinking about cards. Do you really doubt that a professional player, if not fouled there, has an obvious opportunity to score a goal?
