Looking for some help also on the various nicknames. Lots of them and I can't make heads or tails. Barralets Ensaimada Mecánica Bermellones Vermellencs Anyone?
The royal crown in the Real Mallorca badge is known as "es barralet". That is why their followers are known as Barralets. However, it's more used Bermellones, or Vermellencs in catalonian, or Vermillions in english. This nickname is due to Mallorca's red shirt color. "Ensaimada Mecánica" is a name that came from the time where Mallorca reach the Recopa final with Cuper as a coach because they played as a precise machine. Ensaimada is a popular baked food from the island, and the adjective Mecánica (mechanical) is used for well-built teams. First for the Holland of Cruyf (the Naranja Mecánica = Mechanical Orange), then the Albacete of Benito Floro (the Queso Mecánico = Mechanical Cheese) and finally Mallorca. Hope this helps . Although I'm not from Mallorca.
No. And is quite famous, but I've never tried. In fact I've never been in the Baleares islands, but that won't last for too much time. I'm planning a visit to Ibiza on my summer holidays.
Cool. Please report back! I wonder how many other clubs have food-based nicknames. Mallorca - Ensaimada Mecanica Albacete - Queso Mecanica Real Madrid - Merengues Lyon - Les Quenelles That's all I can think of off the top of my head, must be many others.
