Is now live at http://www.footiemap.com/?co=portugal. Please, if you find any inaccuracies, let me know. This was a bear to put together, as information on some of the lower league clubs is very thin. We will be keeping thsi update with new information on stadia, relegation/promotion, etc. as we go along. Thanks.
Wow! This is very impressive. I can't believe my hometown team is even on this map (right above Beira-Mar). Anyway, mods, isn't this worthy of being stickied on our main page? I mean, this is very useful information...
Thanks CSD. You can use that little drop down menu on the top left to navigate to other countries as well. The England map will be getting re-done at some point to show more detail, and I believe that Germany, Holland and maybe even Spain are in the works.
Well, not completely. I did the research and placed the club tags and balls properly, but the guy who runs the site, Erik, did all of the maps, etc. It wasn't easy. Google Earth was a big help. I found the Portuguese address system to be very confusing. Switzerland and France were so much easier. Then there was the matter of adding the island clubs, which took a little creativity.
Awesome map. Hey there, would it be possible to add the great Academico de Viseu from the city of Viseu.....lol Here is their hompage: http://www.academicodeviseu.pt/
forgot the stadium O Fontelo: http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/europe/portugal/viseu_fontelo.shtml
I'll be updating for 2007-2008 shortly. If they've been promoted to one of the top 3 divisions, they will be added.
Yes, they were promoted to the top 3. This is a very old Portuguese team who use to roam the pitches of the first division. We suffered tons of financial issues and the team was re-born last year. Thanks, and nice map.
The map of Portuguese football has been updated for the 2007-2008 season. Go here: http://www.footiemap.com/?co=portugal&season=2007-2008 Earlier seasons are now archived as well, if you use the season drop down menu at the top left. As always, if I have gotten anything wrong please let me know and I would be happy to make corrections. UltraViseu, unfortunately we still only cover the top three divisions, and as I understand it Academico Viseu are in III Divisão, so they are not inlcuded here. I'll keep my fingers crossed for another promotion this season.
Sosorry bud, I thought you were covering up to the III divisao. Either way thanks for considering it.
Since PDC made Porto into a force, southern teams slowly started disappearing and northern ones grew (many of them are satellite clubs of Porto, under their influence) Regardless there would probably always be more northern clubs - it is more populated and has more cities and towns. South of Lisbon you got Alentejo and Algarve, Alentejo has always been a poor region and is practically deserted these days and Algarve is full of Englishmen.
There are historic clubs in the Algarve. A club like Farense has a far more powerful history than most northern clubs. Bad management, lack of support...
