I feel like the current thread on soccer nationality leaves much to be desired, would include players committed elsewhere getting residency here (Honduras' Quioto), catches a lot of silly O-30 late career MLS or even retired players (Collin, LeToux), and kind of misses the main thrust of identifying players with a nationality choice who could actually suit up for the US within a period of years and contribute.

    So who would you propose?

The Athletic just had an article on Jordan Siebatcheu and Kik Pierie... it's hard to think of two dual nationals (out of those who would consider playing for the US) who could have a bigger immediate impact...

And then there's Efrain Alvarez who is tearing up USL at age 15-16:

Kekuta Manneh has not been capped yet and could still opt for Gambia. Not that he'd be a great addition, but it's out there.

Siebatcheu looked fine in Ligue 2, he's done nothing interesting in Ligue 1, and now is recovering fitness after being injured.

Siebatcheu-Wouldn't be against him playing for us, but how good is he?
    T. Tillman-Is he good enough to play for our U-20's?
    M. Tillman-Would be a good addition to the U-17's, but a long way to go from there.
    Alvarez-See M. Tillman
Iturbe-See M. Tillman and Alvarez, but even further away.
    L. Acosta-See Siebatcheu
Pierie-Would walk into the NT at LB. Should be the top player for the new coach to recruit.
Balogun-Further along than M. Tillman/Alvarez, but not yet in the Pierie category.

My ears don't normally perk up about these dual nat types for all kinds of reasons but dutch guys get a 'total' experience in training and I'm down on the kind of fullback we come up with. Have you actually seen this guy play? You seem particularly high on him.

    Yes, I have.

Fans don't care about his case that much because they can't say he defected to our biggest rival.

Has anyone ever read anything about Kik saying he wants to play for the USA?

He's been part of the Dutch youth setup so far. He was born in the USA only because his dad (a pro hockey player) underwent surgery and therapy in the USA. But Kik went back to Zeist when he was about 10 months old, and has never been to the USA since then.

Somewhere in Yanks Abroad there is his quote basically saying that if in a few years he isn't on Dutch NT he would be happy to play for us, but not now.

Kik was born in the USA because his father was doing a surgery fellowship at Mass Gen Hospital. You're right his father also used to play pro hockey, but his career ended in 1995, five years before Kik's birth. He earned his MD-PhD in the middle of his hockey career (!)

Maybe he is referring to "in a few years" with the next World Cup in mind. He would no doubt stick with the Netherlands if they qualify and want him for their senior team, and I think that's the most likely scenario. But I could envision a scenario in which he flips to the US in late 2021 or early 2022. Say he is a solid Oranje U21/U23 regular but is not cap-tied to their senior team yet, and they fail to qualify for the WC again given how difficult their UEFA competition is (for 2018, they didn't even make it to the 2nd round of qualifying), and the US qualifies out of CONCACAF despite having no strong solution at left back. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it has to be cut-and-dry that he is not called up to the Dutch at any level for him and his agent to flip to the US. If the Dutch don't qualify and they've not yet cap-tied him and he is still a U21 player for them, I think we have a good shot, even if the Dutch want him. He would have to ask himself whether he wants to be with a team that didn't qualify, or play in a WC for a team that did.

Good guess. He, actually, did say "four years"implicitly referring to the WC.

Relying on duals is a crapshoot, we get one Jones for each ten Diskeruds or Aronjos.

Careful with immediately promoting to the front of the line a player just because he was lucky to have the right passport early in life.

Are you capable of rational and balanced view and can you accept that everyone else doesnt think in extremes.

The only reliance on dual nationals is that they are part of the pool. In 2014, we relied on Jones and FJ to start and it worked quite well.

Nobody is suggesting or has promoted dual nationals to the front of the line. Even Klinsmann who recruited them aggressively didnt do anything besides give them a chance. Our pool still isnt that deep, so count me as someone who love to have a Jones and couple guys of Johnson's talent push guys 20 to 23 off the roster.

Please. Go to the Yanks Abroad section and you'll see the fans immediately swooning because some Swedish-American kid plays in the Allsvenskan because he's considered a native Swede, and wanting him to get capped right away.

Try to explain to people that playing as a native in your local league doesn't mean you're particularly good.

Even reactionary naive people will ultimately want the best players on the field. Also, those people arent nearly extreme as the pro-MLS people who continue to advocate for average players after showing over and over they arent good enough at the international level. They dont ignore that Robinson has a lot of work to do or that Diskerud wasnt good enough after getting a shot in the 2015 GC. Yet, there are people who keep penciling in Trapp, Delgado, Acosta, etc into line up disagree with any complaints about their games.

You also dont see anyone complaining about Steffen and Adams being starters for us. I just want the best players on the field and every player that is eligible to get a fair shot.

I do have expectations differ by age, but applied equally mo matter where they play. If you are in your prime, you better deliver. If you are young, I'll accept mistakes but you better show signs of improving. Many seem to cut veterans slack because of what they've done in the past and are quick to eliminate young players after poor performance, which is completley backwards in my opinion.

Appeared to be spectacular in '17-'18 with 17 goals and 7 assists helping Reims get promoted, but in '18-'19 after moving on to Rennes it's been quiet. No goals thus far and little playing time. Still very excited for him, if we were to get him he'd immediately jump into the top 2-3 forward options in the system with a rather large ceiling. I think we have a good shot at him if he is focused purely on playing in the World Cup rather than purely on playing for a specific nation (a la Rossi). I don't know what his feelings are in this sense but it does seem clear that he's a long shot to play for France, they have more quality attacking players than a good chunk of Europe combined.
