Alisson was a beast. Great subs. Nuñez made us a threat with his speed and strength. We do have to play much better next week. It was interesting to see us being pinned back for so long.
It's brilliant for Nunez's confidence. he still needs to leave this summer (99%) - but we still need him for trophies this season.
When, as a United fan, your whole life revolves around Liverpool failing and Harvey Elliott destroys your reason for existence in the 87th minute.
Harvey Elliott made 27 starts last season, and Jurgen Klopp said his biggest regret was not using him more. This season he’s made just 4 starts. It’s hard to imagine that he’s not leaving this summer, but it won’t be without having made a vital contribution. He played a huge role at Brentford which was arguably the most important league win so far, and now the goal last night. Nunez, whose days at Liverpool also look numbered, was vital in both of those games as well.
To which I quote Liverbird once more. Possession without penetration is just Masturbation. They were “Rope a Doped” a quote from Ali. Mohamed Ali that is.
I watched the match this morning. Pretty interesting and intense. Pretty much Citied and Tooned them on a yuge scale. ALISSON BECKER, MOM for sure Monster of the match. Then Harvey! Did he only have one kick in the game ??? While their keeper a Drama Queen let’s in a fairly simple goal in the scale of Alisson. That much possession, that many shots, that many corners and they say we had a bad game. . .
Not too shabby. World best right now. Sticky Gloves and vinyl balls weren’t around when I played. Bare hands on a heavy, greased up leather ball was a different dimension in keeping. I coulda been a contender. Look at old photos of Ray Clemence, no big sticky gloves with metal finger supports.
I still get a kick out of Alisson Becker from Nuevo Hamburg, Brazil. I often wondered what date his grandfather arrived from old Hamburg. I still rate him higher than Courtois.
How many times has a team done this to us in the last decade? Keeper plays a blinder. We have a goal ruled out. Batter them with 31 shots and 87 crosses. They score in the 83rd minute and continue to withstand a barrage. Now we've done it and everybody is up in arms.
This has to be the worst I’ve seen some of our players, especially the attackers, perform in years. And there have been stinkers along the way. In the front line, only Jota seemed to try something but even he was short of the standards expected. Salah was below rubbish and took no responsibility whatsoever turning the ball over each time he had it seemingly; Diaz was headless and seemed content to get rid of the ball any whichever way. In turn the defenders seemed unnerved by the speed with which the ball kept back and looked disjointed as a result. I mean, van Dijk was timewasting with 20 minutes to go. Alexander Arnold and Becker did try, the latter (10/10 performance) saving our bacon time and time, again. Yes, PSG was collectively good in transitioning but that why you have so-called world class players in our team. Yet, it actually took the introduction of Jones, Núnez and Elliott to show what happens when you show a bit of composure and look after the Still, here we are, ahead in the tie, through a brazen piece of daylight robbery. And you know what makes this piece of burglary even more satisfying? The palpable gloom in the match summarisers’
Bloody Alisson..... after Paramount + decided to fvck around at half time it was after midnight by the time I got through watching that frightener...... some damn game... We need to wake up next week. And Nunez must play Gakpo Nunez salah
Tim Roth in Pulp Fiction keeps going around in my head This was a robbery Positives of Course Ali's performance, mentally we stayed in the game, never completely lost our heads, and the subs came to the rescue. Negatives, boy we couldn't pass. I know PSG was closing us down and cutting off the passing lanes like nobody else we've seen this year but still there multiple times that we passed strait to touch or to a blue shirt while not under any pressure. And while I give us credit for hanging in there we had a ton luck in our favor. From the chances they created to the Konate Red card shout in a different universe we are down 3 goals and a man at halftime. But we live in this universe and we're 1-0 up COME ON!!!
Well, to be honest they weren’t getting great service. Also, they were getting fouled and shoved off the ball mercilessly. Some of it was just them getting pushed around physically (which was kind of out of character), and some of it should have been called - but the ref wasn’t interested for some reason.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot on the game against PSG: "I would say we weren't a little bit lucky, we were really lucky but as Michael Jordan once said ‘the harder you work the more luck you have’ and this is the biggest compliment you have to give the players. They have worked incredibly hard and I think the second half we didn't control ball possession, not the dominant team at all but we controlled them better than in the first half."
