These should be good. And give ilus a good idea of who Hayes thinks her best 23/26 is atm, who are healthy, anyway. Locks (6): Naeher, Girma, Fox, Horan, Swanson, Smith. Rodman too when healthy. Near locks (4): Sonnett, Nightswonger, Coffey, Albert. Pretty good bets (4): Dunn, Krueger, LaVelle, Shaw. The last 9 could break a lot of ways. 2 GK, so 7 more field players.
I think any healthy players in Europe that Hayes likes, will be on the team for these friendlies. I expect Macario, Gaetino, Albert, Horan and Fox will be on this team. If Johannes decides she wants to join, I am sure Hayes will include her too.
Dunn has been on excused absence from Gotham since the Olympics essentially. You can count her out. She has checked out, guessing she is pregnant.
I have doubts that Purce will be back with the team, with all the talented youngsters in the wings. Hayes would be better served investing in younger players.
Macario is not even rostered of late for Chelsea. It sounds like she has a chronic injury that does not handle high usage. She is a risk to count on for the national team. Being able to handle club is her current hurdle.
On the broadcast today, Jenn Hildreth referred to Sophia Smith as "one shot of the triple espresso" - - - - genius.
Boy, IDK. Maybe I am letting that MVP performance from the NWSL Final last year cloud things, but outside of Swanson & Rodman, I like Purce better than any of the WB/WF types we have. She's 29. Hardly over the hill.
29 and has lost most of the last two seasons to a torn quad and torn ACL. I like what she brings and would want Hayes to give her a shot, but I just don't think you can plan around her at this point.
Your're not planning around Purce, she's a reserve when we are healthy (Naeher; Fox, Girma, Sonnett, Nighswonger; Coffey, ???, Horan; Rodman, Smith, Swanson). But with Trinity out....there are some questions wide, especially if you keep Rose/Shaw central. But you could certainly put Macario/Lavelle/Shaw out there, but I like all 3 better centrally. And none of those options have Rodman's pace. Hayes tried Sanchez wide last window. In more like for like, Sears had a promising debut. And Thompson got a goal. But I'd still take a healthy Purce over either at this point (if such a thing exists). Doubtful this window, but in 2025 she vould be getting close.
Best uninformed guess at a roster, let me know if I am including someone who is out. Locks (7): Naeher; Fox, Girma, Coffey, Horan, Swanson, Smith. Near Locks (5): Nighswonger, Sonnett, Albert, Lavelle, Shaw. Safe bets (3): Krueger, Yohanneds, Williams. That gets us to 15. The backup keepers (2), 4th FB (1), and non-Girma CBs (3) push it to 21. IDK if I'd call Macario yet. But I think Thompson & Sears deserve more looks. That is 23, 24 if you want to call Macario.
Yep, it might be like the Press return hype—-ain’t automatic, gotta earn that spot back. For MF, I’m looking more at Croix Bethune’s recovery and return.
Trinity did play a full 90 minute game this last Sunday in the NWSL playoffs. If anything, it anything it was Sophia down for minutes , clutching her leg at the end of her game, but don’t know the post game report if it’s an serious injury
I missed that Rodman went a full 90. That is certainly good news. I did see that Davidson was back & got a goal. I'd assume that she would be called in, but beyond Girma & Sonnett I am muddied on CBs atm.
My comment wasn't so much age related (maybe a little), I'm just not much of a fan. I just think we just have better players waiting in the wings. I wish her the best and wouldn't root against her if she did make another roster, though.
For those who haven't seen it already, here are the call-ups: GOALKEEPERS (3): Mandy Haught (Utah Royals FC; 1), Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Manchester United, ENG; 0), Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars; 113) DEFENDERS (9): Tierna Davidson (NJ/NY Gotham FC; 64/3), Emily Fox (Arsenal FC, ENG; 60/1), Eva Gaetino (Paris Saint-Germain, FRA; 1/0), Naomi Girma (San Diego Wave FC; 42/2), Casey Krueger (Washington Spirit; 59/0), Alyssa Malonson (Bay FC; 1/0), Jenna Nighswonger (NJ/NY Gotham FC; 17/2), Emily Sams (Orlando Pride; 2/0), Emily Sonnett (NJ/NY Gotham FC; 101/2) MIDFIELDERS (6): Korbin Albert (Paris Saint-Germain, FRA; 20/1), Sam Coffey (Portland Thorns FC; 26/1), Hal Hershfelt (Washington Spirit; 2/0), Lindsey Horan (Olympique Lyon, FRA; 159/36), Rose Lavelle (NJ/NY Gotham FC; 108/24), Lily Yohannes (Ajax, NED; 1/1) FORWARDS (6): Yazmeen Ryan (NJ/NY Gotham FC; 2/0), Emma Sears (Racing Louisville FC; 2/1), Ally Sentnor (Utah Royals FC; 0/0), Jaedyn Shaw (San Diego Wave FC; 19/8), Alyssa Thompson (Angel City FC; 11/1), Lynn Williams (NJ/NY Gotham FC; 73/20) I forgot about Tullis-Joyce playing in England, so that's another Euro resident player called in... where's the Mewis call-up in that case?
Well, she's preggers... https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebr...iancée-sam-kerr/ar-AA1uiO3M?ocid=BingNewsSerp
