https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...eact-THINGS-LEARNED-Englands-win-Ireland.html An Interesting round up. Not sure the assumption should still be who will partner Rice but just who the midfielders will be. Do agree that Bellingham needs to learn to calm down - Fifa tournament ref’s in particular will become stricter and stricter on dissent.
Unless something has changed, we don’t actually know what the jurisdiction is, and whether players at the FIFA Club World Cup clubs have to released or not for the UEFA U21 Euros. So it’s certainly not ‘probable’ as you purport, it’s unknown.
Surely the midfield takeaway is that the variety of skill sets helps the team greatly. Rice and Gallagher can’t start together in deeper CM roles. Have too many similar issues that collectively ruin the midfield balance.
The new FIFA regulations seems to suggest clubs don’t have to release players. https://prosoccerwire-eu.usatoday.c...ed-release-international-players/76066589007/
Ok I take that back then, something has changed! Must have missed that when it came out a few weeks ago, shame that’s the case.
Interesting article about Kane in the guardian. Not sure I’ve seen any other national outlet calling him finished or wanting him to be dropped. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-a-successful-era-but-that-has-run-its-course
I really don't like Barney Ronay but he's right here. Kane's England games are mostly starting to look all the same. He's obviously not completely washed or useless but the team on the whole is starting to regularly look worse when he's on the pitch. I was thinking why he still scores goals in the Bundesliga but looks so poor for England and I think it just comes down to space. There's so much space to work with in that league, it's probably the most open of Europe's top five leagues. The trouble is that international football just isn't like that at all. His Champions League performances have declined too and the only (big) game where I've seen him look decent lately (league or UCL) is Barcelona where they play with that obscenely high line and afford the opposition a tonne of space. He can obviously still have his moments in and England shirt but they're becoming less and less frequent and mostly happen against a certain calibre of opponent.
Say what you like about Lee Carsley, at least he had the balls and the foresight to leave England's captain out for that key Greece game. I just hope Tommy Tuchs isn't so misty eyed about Kane, as a result of their Bayern relationship, that he's going to persevere with him regardless of how he's performing, or how much he's holding the team back.
Other than the disaster of the Greece home game where he experimented without an out and out striker to get all the stars on the pitch which backfired horribly, Carsley has done a fine job. I think he's far better than Southgate in terms of style of play and attacking football and he's given the young generation of U21 players a chance which Southgate would never have done. Tuchel will most likely be more defensive but I still think appointing a manager of that calibre is our best chance of winning the World Cup. Nevertheless, if it goes wrong with Tuchel I'd definitely consider Carsley for the full time job next time around.
Yeah, that's my worry, but I think Tuchel will ultimately be ruthless. It just seems in his nature. Carsley also deserves real credit for that. He didn't get everything right but he showed minerals there. I think there's a decent chance he gets the gig after Tuchel.
I think Delap could be the long term replacement for Kane, but he's not ready for a season or 2 yet. Watkins isn't perfect but we looked better with him leading the line against Greece. Solanke if he gets more chances could stake a claim too, although he like Kane again lacks a bit of mobility. The only thing about Kane is he still has that touch of class. Fantastic ball for the first goal yesterday which led to the penalty and the sending off and changed the whole game. But before that he was awful and we had barely even had a shot on goal against Ireland at home which isn't good enough. Maybe Kane's best role is as super sb moving forward, who knows. Difficult decision for Tuchel.
Tbf to Southgate he brought through alot of young players. He gave Bellingham his debut at 17. Brought through Gallagher rice sancho Hudson-odoi etc
Maybe I was being a bit unfair. But Carsley has given debuts to Hall, Livramento, Rogers, Jones, Gibbs White, Gomes, Madueke and Harwood Bellis (I may have missed others) all in the space of 4 months. That's really impressive.
Do you think Solanke is immobile? I think he's pretty quick and extremely athletic. He's excellent with his back to goal too. Kane's immobility wouldn't be as big of an issue if he was still good with his back to goal. It's truly puzzling how that aspect of his game has disappeared. He's big, has a good touch and is good in the air, there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to be a focal point up top but he seems completely unable to physically compete with defenders anymore.
Maybe he has lost confidence in that ability after being absolutely dominated in the final by chiellini and bonnuci
Shearer had suffered two serious cruciate ligament injuries while at Blackburn. Or was it one at Blackburn one at Newcastle. He was the best forward in the world before then well until Ronaldo turned up. I always wonder how good Ronaldo could have been if he hadn't suffered those serious injuries
He had a bad ankle injury after his first season at Newcastle - that's what really reduced his mobility, and where he changed his approach.
I like Solanke and hope he gets more of a chance but wouldn't say he's particularly quick. I think this affects him being able to press like Watkins, but he is better with his back to goal. It would be interesting to see him start a game for England and see how we do as he's only been used as a late substitute under Carsley.
If Tuchel drops Kane then Bellingham will be the front runner for new captain as Tuchel is all about winning and Bellingham is the biggest winner in terms of achievements and personality of those nearly guaranteed to start.
He needs to sort out his discipline issues if he wants to be made captain imo. If he continues on his current trajectory, he’s going to get sent off before too long.
That is true. Particularly as if he was Captain he would be talking more to the Ref. And he still looks a bit distant from some of the players to me - like for some of them he is just a teammate and not a friend.
https://www.skysports.com/football/...omas-tuchel-build-on-lee-carsleys-foundations Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports does a round up of what Tuchel might do. Tottenham Hotspur are looking at the possibility of re-signing English midfielder Harry Winks, 28, having only sold him to Leicester last year. (Fichajes - in Spanish), external England and Republic of Ireland could face fines after both national anthems were jeered at Wembley ahead of the Nations League clash between the countries. (Daily Telegraph) Jack Grealish has thanked Lee Carsley for 'bringing back the enjoyment' in an England shirt after his snub from the Euro 2024 squad under Gareth Southgate. (Daily Mail)
John Stones, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish and even Rico Lewis have all won more than Jude, or at least the same.
I know but it’s hard to imagine any of them as Kane’s successor as Captain. Foden and Palmer both don’t feel like ready to captain particularly Foden.
