Good for madrid, not so good for the game.

The EU is regulating the game pretty much like other industries. And, UEFA's "homegrown rule" has been an abject failure, as it pertains to curtailing the will of unlimited money in some clubs. Clhbs have figured out that if you plant a 40 year old 3rd GK who will never play, that can help Clubs circumvent the rules, for example. What it'll lead to is consolidation in the game, just as it did in other industries.

The ESL will probably come about as Ligue Un disintegrates, and P$G seeks out what they consider to be their "peers" to form a new competition. Meanwhile, with little-to-no impetus to maintain canteras, most of the massive clubs that will be in the ESL will get rid of theirs.

After all, why invest in a money-losing youth academy, if La Fabrica has provided pretty much zero 1st XI players in a decade? Or whatever P$G's cantera is/is not? Or any other number of massive buying clubs?

    This, too.

Networked clubs may survive in the shorter term, but I agree that they do little to maintain supporter interest. That is, over the interests of their ownership networks.

I have no doubt Schalke will avoid on-field relegation, but how big a risk are they at for financial relegation? Their finances have been a mess for years now.

The whole team was anemic. They played like a late-stage Pep barca. Sideways passing and nobody taking responsibility. I think he may have missed a couple chances at best and that penalty which did not determine the outcome ultimately.
I trust he knows what his body can and cannot do. What he surely can't do is just take the team on his back and create goals out of thin air. He has to chase down chances. But when was it otherwise in NT for him??

The club is apparently prepared for the worst if survival is threatened:

Selling the Veltins Arena has already been studied by a financial agency as a potential scenario, considered as a final solution.

Schalke have already applied for a 3rd division license by the way and received one "under certain requirements". I don't see how they'll operate this huge arena playing third tier football if it happens.

They were told last season they wouldn't be accepted in Div 3 due to their finances and relegation would mean dropping to Div 4 regional which would also mean all player contracts get nullified

They received the Div 3 license about 5 months ago, it's on the club website.

But can we sit and consider how mad this is? We played Champions League games against those guys, so many fantastic players and moments. I'd be heartbroken.

Precisely why you have Bellingham as the 10 and build around him.

Enough of this Phil Foden nonsense

Didn't watch the england game but I can tell you France looks like a competely different ( and much better team sans Mbappe.

Frustrating that while they look ready to move on from him the Madrid team is gonna be stuck for a while propping him up trying to justify the huge signing fee and contract Flroentino gave him.
