It has been a really long time since I've been so pissed off with colombia but this game will be up there with some of colombias most embarrassing performances ever on par with some of the Copa america losses to Peru
The tie in Barranquilla was pretty shocking and pathetic but again they can own us in qualifiers all they want as long as we keep eliminating them when it matters
It was a painful loss, but not one of our worst losses. I think the team looked a notch or two down from its best version, but honestly speaking, we could have won or draw that game with just a few plays going our way. We should not keep basking on the defeat, but looking forward to our schedule, and hopefully we could clinch the WC berth early next year. Next Tuesday Uruguay visits Brazil and if they don’t win and we beat Ecuador, we could be back in second place.
Sanchez has had his best spell lately but unfortunately he's never been good on the ball and defensively he loses his head and makes mistakes too often. I think he just doesn't have the calm and composure that the best CB's have, and is error prone because of it. If you're not good on the ball you really don't have a ton of room for error defensively, he's been better for us lately but his weaknesses are still there. That said I don't think he did anything wrong at all on the own goal, it deflected and he was blocking the cross and it was difficult to anticipate and took a bad bounce, that's part of being a defender and it was just unlucky. On their 2nd goal he didn't defend well, but just a small error in his positioning and he should have stepped up and aggressively closed down on the right with all the help to his left.
coach has to get better at scouting and making subs. The game was much worst than the scoreline. The amount of goals Sanchez and Vargas stopped was crazy. They were cutting our defense like butter. Like people said Munoz is not match fit and was out of position constantly Quintero had a great goal but did nothing else. We can't play a team like Uruguay with 1 guy less on the field. Mina.... coming on shows a lack of ideas and bad scouting and the stupidity of the hard on for 26 players especially with 6+ players who if they get a yellow card can't play against Ecuador. He also didnt replace Cabal. Now some idiot is going to be like who does he call if I am so smart..... cool man... this guy gets paid over 2 million dollars to coach our team and get the best players and to know the guys to call. With how well we did at Copa América if he asked to hire another coach the federation would be insane to not give it to him. He has people scouting. Yet he using Ruedas team + Duran/Yaser/Rios who just were too young to be called by Rueda. If you dont agree how do you justify Ospina or Uribe being called? I mean I hate Carrascal and think he is utter shit but whatever the other 2 are just mind blowing. I mean I hated Pinto but dude found Carlos Sanchez in like 2nd division Uruguay.
Okay after giving myself a entire day to process our stupid loss and Mike Tyson's disappointing apparent rigged match against Jake Paul to the point that I repeatedly drank mamajuana at my friend's birthday party last night, I do think that looking to Ecuador for a convincing win IS needed for the Colombian team to make up for such a poor response that has no excuse whatsoever. Losing in such a matter would NEVER be accepted in any country, whether you're a contender for the fcuking world cup or not. These players need to be rightfully held to a much higher standard especially with how promising our form has been since failing to qualify for the world cup in 2022.
You guys are overthinking this. Quintero played a decent game but he can’t go more than 60 minutes, so he should have been subbed earlier. Puerta was a nice surprise, doing very well for his international debut. I think Arias and Rios were not completely comfortable with Quintero instead of James so their linkup was poor. But if I saw someone really underperforming it was Muñoz, who was a liability on defense and contributed very little on attack. To counter crazed’s points, Lorenzo doesn’t need to find any prospects in dark leagues, but it’s a little odd that he didn’t call Borja. Oh, and while Sanchez had his good moments he was horrendous in several crucial games, plus Pinto also brought Portocarrero and Sergio Herrera and benched Falcao.
I agree about Quintero; I mentioned during the match how he was putting in the work rate to help get the ball back but it was clear after a certain point he needed to be subbed out.
Crzd always talking about scouting as if we are going to find solutions in Bucaramanga if our best players are not good enough, our bad ones definitely aren’t
Quintero did not play a decent game, he didn't get involved with the play at all and since he's even worse than James at recovering the ball, he was basically an empty shirt while we getting hammered by Uruguay
Quintero played well in the first half, holding possession and trying to release Diaz and Muñoz on the wings. Had he not scored, I’d say it was a little below average half, but 10 minutes into the second half it was clear that he was not covering ground on defense and being dispossessed easily when we got the ball back. And here is where Lorenzo completely misread the game and waited too long to make adjustments, bringing in James and Borre 10 minutes after Uruguay had turned the score around, then he waited another 15 minutes to throw in Gomez and Mina in hope of a miracle. I like Lorenzo but he was completely out-coached by Bielsa after halftime.
In this time period, there are very few hidden gems, and with 95% confidence, scouts know what players can move up and what level they can play, with a relatively small number of games. NT coaches can probably keep track of 100-150 players and while they could follow a few promising youngsters, chances are that they will not discover the next Roca from here till March.
