If the San Jose Earthquakes didn’t lose any players to St. Louis CITY SC in the last expansion draft two years ago, are they susceptible to losing one this year to San Diego FC?

If so, who should the team protect besides Cristian Espinoza, Hernán López Muñoz and Daniel?

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I'll assist anyone who wants to try this. So, the team will protect 12 players and at least three of the internationals need to be named. GAs and U-25s excluded. So we don't need to protect Bouda, Munie, Tsakiris, Ricketts, Ochoa, Medina, Baldi, Benji, Verhoeven, Jackson, Mendoza, Walls, Richmond and very, very unfortunately Judd. I didn't realize how many young players we have.

Let's asasume Goodsie's internationals are correct.
    1 Espinoza
    2 Hernán López Muñoz
    3 Daniel

So, what 9 players out of this group would you protect? Or if you prefer, which 6 players to you dangle?

    William Yarbrough
    Tanner Beason
    Carlos Akapo Martinez
    Rodrigues
    Bruno Wilson
    Paul Marie
    Vítor Costa
    Tommy Tompson
    Alfredo Morales
    Carlos Gruezo
    Jackson Yueill
    Jack Skahan
    Amahl Pellegrino
    Jeremy Ebobisse
    JT Marcinkowski

The 6 I’d dangle are Gruezo, Gruezo, Gruezo, Gruezo, Gruezo, and Gruezo.

What, you can’t repeat names? OK then I’d add Bro, Morales, TT, Pellegrino, and Akapo. Akapo because we’re unlikely to re-sign him anyway at his $ and age.

Would the Earthquakes be able to withstand the loss of any of those players? And would he then thrive with San Diego FC?

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

Of those 6, the only ones with any chance to be picked up are Pellegrino and Akapo, and at $900k and $600k respectively, both over 30, probably not.

In any case, this is now the next MLS event that’ll involve the Earthquakes (though they may or may not have anyone chosen).

Of the players who are still in contract next year I'd protect Bouda, Tsikiris, Marie, Verhoeven, and Chance Cowell. Munie is out of contract so I'd have to mull on that one.

Let me add Tanner Beason (buh-bye!) who is out of contract as of 12/31. I sure hope we put a blue-light special on Gruezo...

We csn expose the whole team, and 6 picks, I doubt we lose someone.

It’ll be interesting to see if that changes in a few years if Bruce Arena becomes the Earthquakes’ next head coach.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

That probably depends on whether San Diego FC adds Kevin de Bruyne or not

From that list, I’d keep Rodrigues and maybe Bruno Wilson and that’s it…

I am sure the rest would love San Diego.
