They were supposedly "drug tested", but Paul especially looks roided out. That's not a normal looking body. And 'roids have to be a huge advantage in a sport like boxing. If the drug testing is not done by an independent body - it's under the control of the "event", for which many, many millions are on the line, I have a hard time believing it's on the up and up.
They used to be pretty good years ago. I just noticed yesterday that our old one, by Oakridge Mall, now closed. Nothing but the faded-out imprint of where their sign used to be. On the bright side, the salmon tacos at Zona Rosa (which we only recently discovered) are delicious and they have them at 2 for $10 during happy hour. They have a location in Los Gatos but we like the one on The Alameda, not far from Luna, which is also really good. Next time you make it home from Madison, I recommend you try 'em!
If we didn't have Netflix already and had to pay for that... The women's fight was far more intense, but I think they got the call wrong. The fighter with the massive cut over her eye won that one, imo. I think the crowd thought so too.
I don’t watch any “fight sports”, and didn’t watch this one, but I had some rooting interest in the outcome of this one. I wanted to see the old guy get it done, but alas 58 yo is pretty tough. I just noticed especially how roided out Paul looks and thinking about how much of an advantage that is for a boxer. Mike may also have been on the juice.
when I think of "roided out" I think of lean, defined muscle mass like Arnold back in the day... ...I didn't see that with Paul. I admit, we tuned in for the spectacle, but it was not very good. Credit to Mike for going the distance and looking as good as he does at his age.
I think of Barry Bonds, who looked, during peak roid days, like Paul does now. Not that much definition but just lots of mass. One narrative going around, and pushed by Paul himself, is that Paul backed off and let Mike finish. Some kind of fakery is always possible in an exhibition like this.
it was really more of an exhibition, almost a WWE event. There were some punches thrown but you're right, Mike wasn't even punching in the later rounds and Paul just kind of tip toed around. Even the announcers were asking "why doesn't he go after Mike?" ...then, at the end, he (Paul) was effusive in his praise for Iron Mike...it was a love fest. So, more of a money grab / exhibition than a real contest. And $20 million for Mike! Not bad for an hour's work.
