Sure. But I was responding to your post about wishing they had spent more. They spent a lot----all those Division titles and several NL pennants were the proof in the pudding. Just lost our ability to hit in the clutch too many times in the WS.
You're right, I did say that exactly. I was thinking more about whether they spent as much as the Yankees. Maybe they did and it just didn't work out, I can't say. All I know is they were up two games to none in 1996 before Jim Leyritz erased the next whole half-decade of potential success.
No. We lost the first game back at Fulton County---Game 3. The Leyritz game was Game 4. I had season tickets back then and was at all three games at home. The next night when Pettitte shut us down 1-0 was almost as painful.
For a neutral, that was one of the greatest post-season pitchers’ duel ever. The Yankee run was unearned, as I recall. And if I recall correctly, it’s because the game reminded me of a lot of Braves games I’d watch with friends in the 80’s when Rick Mahler would throw a complete game (or at least 8 solid innings) without allowing an earned run, while still getting tagged with the loss.
