Even when we lose to teams it still happens. Remember that Italy team that went on a 30 odd game unbeated run we lost to in the final. People now say we lost to a very average Italy side.
to be fair it's often english fans and media that say all these things themselves and the rest of the world just repeats it because that's what they've been told. it's like in pro wrestling when you are selling a match/story you should never put down the opponent too much because if the story is that you end up beating them then you beat a loser and if you lose you lost to a loser. it is generally speaking English fans themselves that do this neurotic back and forth of other teams not being very inspiring and how they should be beating these pub sides and then trashing their own team for being pathetic etc. it's the same song and dance every tournament. this forum is massive outlier to what people see from a lot of pundits and fans online. for example I love watching The Club but I mostly watch for the laughs I think all the lads are loveable and it's good stuff but the wild swings in their takes regarding who is world class who is not and what the level of football outside the Prem is and isn't always makes for hilarity. It's almost too late when you try and reel it in last minute. At the end of the day they just need to win. Spain existed in this space from 1962-2008 and then won 3 straight tournaments and like France once they won have become perennial contenders even when they don't have the best squad they know they are in it. Most of this stuff is a mind game. I think Jude is a game changer because mentally he is something else and the team feeds off of that. We also saw this with Messi in 2022 where he was neurotically in the shadow of Maradona and under the thumb of never gifting anything to Argentina when he won that 2021 Copa America the monkey was off his back and he went into 2022 being a bully ready to fight. My worry is that Southgate brings that 1996 old english baggage with him and he is trying to right a historical wrong rather than just going all out bravado smash and grab. His cautiousness does not come off as calculated it comes off as paranoid but that could be wrong. If he wins it will all have been worth it.
I'm sure as a Canadian you consume a lot of English media, but its a bit grand to make this massive assumption that the rest of the world just repeats (when this isn't even the prevailing narrative) it because it what they've been told, like they aren't capable of critical thinking.
I am jumping on a comment making specific statement of what people say about the teams England beat or Englands run under Southgate in general and explaining how it is almost a cliche' at this point but it's a cliche' fans of other nations not in the necessarily in the rest of the world but the english speaking world whether Canada US Scotland Ireland Australia New Zealand etc have picked up from English fans/media themselves and this is really who the comment is directed towards because English fans are likely not very aware of what is being said in other languages those takes often exist outside the english speaking football bubble whatever they may be. I doubt anyone in Africa or Asia or say Hungary have much of a bad thing to say about Southgate or the teams that England have faced the last 8 years. i am not saying people can't think for themselves just that these things are said about England by prominent English football voices all the time. Do some people just repeat what they hear? Yes but regardless the notion that these takes are born out of an anti England/English football sentiment falls apart when once again they are said by English fans/media all the time so that's where it starts.
This is much worse than thale tweet makes it sound. There was a criminal case made against Bellingham for his comments. It is quiet incredible he has been given the england game, and I would be very interested to see who gave it to him because it seems unlikely to be unintentional.
As much I'd like to bask once more in the memory of that glorious win Oranje, it must be pointed out that Ronald Koeman wasn't part of your Euro 96 squad. So sorry, his payback time is long overdue.
🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: UEFA are now reviewing the decision to appoint Felix Zwayer as referee for the England-Netherlands match, amid concerns within the governing body.Zwayer has previously been banned from football for accepting a €300 bribe to match-fix in 2005.@TimesSport pic.twitter.com/1fyOTa0uWJ— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) July 8, 2024
Rooney stamped on Carvalho's balls. That was a red card all day. Not here to anger you guys, but really Ronaldo was villainized for pointing out what Rooney actually did.
The referees have been dodgy against us in the past two knockout games. Now UEFA are bringing out their final boss

It is rather odd just considering the previous with Bellingham and whatever happened between them. You would think uefa should change the ref just to save themselves from any controversy.
Yeah he did but you have to wonder if he actually got sent off for that or the push on Ronaldo which would be ridiculous. The ref only seemed to react once the Portuguese players surrounded him. Right decision was made though regardless.
It’s hard to disagree though to be fair or have I missed something? Unfortunately mate whether you like hearing it from the Welsh, Scottish, Germans or whoever we have in general stunk the place out and it’s hard to really disagree even though we're in another semi final. I can only comment truthfully on what I watch and the last game was a bit better however but that’s not saying much considering the football we have produced in the previous games.
