I remember when Almada left Santos, Torres form dropped. He went from being included in team of the week every week to having sub par performances. I think it was thanks to the NT and Alfaro that he became some what more consistent at club level but he never got that kind of media/ fan praise again. Almada definitely has a noticeable impact on our players.

I think the whole Campana thing was more about him coming from a family of money his uncle is Alvaro Noboa. I don't know the whole story about him but it can also be political as well.

As for the 5 FW These would be my picks.
    Rodriguez
    Jordy
    Estrada
    Campana
    Jairon Charcopa

I think Allen Obando should be part of the squad as well. He shouldn’t start but I think it would be beneficial for him to train with the NT and get some playing time. A player I would like to see have a breakout season is Justin Cuero. He has a lot of potential. He’s been linked to Liga but that would be a bad move. Even with Parrales leaving Liga still has Arce, Estrada, and Charcopa on the squad.

Justin Cuero's loan with that Russian team ended so he will most likely return to IDV unless he finds another team aboard. I doubt IDV will loan him to Liga or that Liga would buy him. Obando and Jeremy Arevalo are other good options Cuero can be too if he has a good season.

IDV wouldn’t be a good option for Cuero. Lautaro Diaz was sold to Cruzeiro but they still have Renzo Lopez and Michael Hoyos on the squad. I think they also brought in Jean Carlos Blanco.

His future is definitely uncertain for now. If anything Emelec and Aucas would be the best if no option come up for him aboard.

On paper Emelec wouldn’t be a bad option. Castelli is out for a few months. Unless they signed someone recently the only striker that’s healthy is Jaime Ayovi. The club’s budget is tight so I don’t think they’d be able swing it.

Emelec has to be the worst run team out there. From what I gather the doctors at emelec didn’t think Castelli’s injury was that serious, he had torn ligaments. Eventually led them to be let go last week which led Castelli to get surgery in Argentina.

Zubeldia wouldn’t be my first choice. Not because I think he’s not a good coach. I don’t think his preferred style of play would compliment the players Ecuador has. He can also be temperamental. He’s liable to quit at any time if he were to have a disagreement with the FEF.

So apparently the FEF wants to go all-in for Pekerman.

He didn’t leave Venezuela on good terms. That rubs me the wrong way.

Would the FEF even be able to afford his salary?

If I remember correctly, Pekerman was responsible for the best Colombia of this century (aside from the 2001 version) - AND also help elevate Venezuela to gain momentum.

    But I could be wrong.

BAS leaving is surprising, we typically don't see that kind of move from the FEF especially considering how much the team has done in terms of being in qualification zones and playing a 4th game in CA. Nunca se vio la mano del tecnico in this instance and I truly wonder if most of has been achieved so far was mostly riding the talent of the players.
I'm seeing strong comments in favor and against Zubeldia or Almada at the helm... maybe I'm missing something but at least these guys know Ecua ball. I think we improve overall, but these coming games and dates are historically when Ecuador goes into a lull lol I am excited to see who what when takes over.

There’s going to be some backlash with whoever gets hired. BSC and Emelec ppl will complain if Zubeldia gets hired. Liga and Emelec ppl will complain if Almada gets hired. Liga and BSC ppl will complain if Sampaoli gets hired. Liga, BSC, and Emelec ppl will complain if Anselmi or Miguel Angel Ramirez gets hired.

Exactly - the last qualifier was a clear example...when other results work to our favor, we fumbled the bag. It happened at least 3 times during the past qualifier when we dropped points.

Enner and Peruvian player gets a red card and all of a sudden they are number 2 in their group playing the mighty Venezuela lol
This side of the bracket was a cake walk for Argentina. Mexico was their only real threat (historically at least). It makes missing those 3 penalties and that god awful header from Jordy that much more crushing.

If Colombia or Uruguay end up winning this tournament, then WOW... that would be an epic one for the history books. They would have left the other big 3 on the wayside.

Yeapppppp. Colombia started their tie parade and I think Uruguay dropped some points. The longer Brazil is in this catatonic state the worst it will be for us, just hoping to steal a point over there somehow lol

There is once again another golden opportunity to pull points.

We play what appears to be a severely weakened Brazilian team in Rio, and while I don’t hold hope they remain in a rut forever, I hope we can at least pull 1 point. After we play Peru at home. This exact match last year signaled their resurgence and eventual slot for the repechaje slot. They were on the cusp of elimination.

We can battle it out for 4-6 points and we’ll be high flying. Matchdays 7-10 were always tricky for us. We play Paraguay at home and then have to visit Montevideo. It’s in this stretch where we dig ourselves into holes we have to claw our way out of later on- usually in the last 3 matches.

    Win now, and win comfortably.
