Is there anything about this Costa Rican team worth noting? Last time during the 2016 Copa America we got very lazy and took them lightly since they were our last opponents in the group after we qualified. This time, I don't think we will replicate that mistake since Brazil would be right after them.
yea last time everyone made fun of them and told them they were all going to die they eliminated England and Italy from the World Cup haha
2016 CA - we fielded our B team against them bc it was the 3rd game of the group stage and we knew were already advancing I recall Fabra pulling off the amazing feat of scoring for both sides LOL
I think as mentioned in another thread, Alfaro knows Colombian futboleros and he has WC experience but kind of choked during world cup play. I don't favor this CR side to do much but they can be a threat up top.
The Brasil result concerns me more. Costa Rica now have confidence and know they can even jump us with as shock win in the standings. We have to play better than that second half against Paraguay.
Brazil had 19 shots to 2. CR parked the bus big time but having played a strong defensive block vs Paraguay will have us well prepped for this game. That result was perfect for us. A win for us and we lock a spot in QF regardless of the 3rd match. I was much more worried about Paraguay.
They will be prepared for us too and they will see Mojica and try to attack on his side a lot. I think we will win and hope we score an early goal but the longer it is 0-0 the more ulcers I may get in my stomach.
their best attacking look came when fat Campbell came to play. He still has the skills but I didn't see any threat vs Brazil. With their 1 point vs Brazil they wont be risking their defensive stance. If they pocket 1 extra point and beat Paraguay they have a solid chance to advance.
I want to see Sini, Yaser, Duran in this match. At least one of them would be nice. Two of them would be fantastic. All three would make me dance like Mina scoring a goal.
Excited for Friday! my considerations: 1. lucumi’s health 2. Improved positioning by Davinson / Mojica - let’s be realistic, I doubt either will be replaced. 3. Smart defense by Lerma 4. Mina’s conditioning 5. James’ conditioning - I would like to see him go 65 min before putting in JFQ / Carrascal 6. More involvement from Borre on the attack 7. Want to see Duran and Sini get minutes.
3 points Brazil and Paraguay tie Paraguay or Costa Rica win would be amazing!!! Fk Brazil Paraguay knocks out US Colombia beats Uruguay then walks over Paraguay again
Costa Rica will park the bus, so we'll need players like carrascal, yaser and every other one who can beat them in a one on one situation.
I didn't pay attention to it. But I'd much rather play against a Costa Rica who will attack us over a Costa Rica who will bunker. Depends on the score. If we need gols they will come in, and likely Sini or Duran too. If we manage to score, like yesterday, Lorenzo will save them for when we need them. I get the feeling Lorenzo has been as cautious with our youngers guys as possible so he can unleash them at the perfect moment. Since his very first friendly, he's seen what our younger speedy guys are capable of. If we can make it to the knockout rounds without having to use them, I'm down for that. We will most certainly need them later on...
Paraguay > Costa Rica. Take that to the bank. Getting outshot 19-2 is a bad day in finishing for Brazil but CR was poor throughout 80 of the 90 minutes, Totally would love CR to attack us.
I think Lorenzo should strongly consider not starting Mina and James for this game. We need to use our depth and I don't think we're going to be able to start those 2 3 straight games and especially with an intense Brazil game as the 3rd game and not put them in serious injury danger. Start Quintero as a like for like and we can bring on James late in the game if needed, if not Yaser/Carrascal at 60 minutes.
If we win, we wouldn't need to start them against Brazil. We'd advance no matter what. Then you could save them for the tougher matches. And if you're worried about injuries, Brazil on the final match day still needing to qualify sounds dangerous.
How they played against Brazil no doubt he will consider carefully. He does seemingly recognize the issues in the team after every match but I fear that he can be too forgiving at times with some players.
I haven't looked at the bracket considerations but I think we should be trying to win the group and get the best possible matchup and assuming Brazil win their next game and we win vs Costa Rica we'd very likely need at least to avoid a loss vs Brazil to finish top.
Also to add the risk for injury goes way up when you're on short rest especially for guys with soft tissue style injuries that James and Mina suffer from.
