Messi started good but was visibly hurt and carrying a knock after that hard bump from Chilean player. Had we score long before 88th minute, I think he'd have been subbed off. We should be able to hit multiple goals on Peru without Messi.
What would you guys give this ref a rating out of 5 for each of the three points below. Honesty: Competency: Allow Game to flow:
There's one foul on Messi in dangerous FK area, but he decided to let the game to continue. Then there's that blatant handball by Chile player , similar to Croatia handball in WC 2022. I'd rate him 2/5.
We will destroy Perú. Our main guys should rest, we should play pur youngsters and subs. Will destroy Peru anyway, god bless them
I love these tears Emiliano Martínez celebrating in front of Chile fans after Lautaro's goal 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/rlF7TVT3yZ— All About Argentina 🛎🇦🇷 (@AlbicelesteTalk) June 26, 2024
My main takeaway was that the pitch was garbage. When (anulo mufa) Argentina advances to the semis, la selección will have to play on that garbage pitch again. MetLife needs to be working overtime on making that fake pitch less shitty.
Those people should have learnt at this point that Dibu performs better and better when he's being mocked. Let the bloodbath begin between Chile and Canada. I know it just conincidence but the bull always scores against the red (Canada, Chile, Liverpool, Milan)
I didn't have much of a problem with the ref. He let a lot go, which seems to be according to the general mandate that refs are following in this competition. When things started to get out of hand, he handed out a few cards to calm the tempo. I know that we expect to get every single call, but on the whole, he was consistent and called it both ways. Could he have been a little more punitive of Chile in the first half? Absolutely. On the handball in the box, I can see how some refs would call that, but for me, I prefer a no-call in that situation.
🗣 Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni: "Against Peru, the guys who didn't get minutes in these matches (Canada and Chile) will play." 🇦🇷 pic.twitter.com/km2tf51yl4— Roy Nemer (@RoyNemer) June 26, 2024
Messi said he didnt tear muscle but the tackle made him alot more stiff as the game went on. he also said ""I've been coming here for a couple of days with a sore throat, with a fever, maybe that took its toll on me today too. It's not something old or something I had, just a contracture. We'll see." He definetely needs to rest againts Peru. Although I'm afraid he wants to get his first goal to calm his nerve in front of goal. Lautaro definetely benifited from Nico & Julian tireless pressing. By the the time he came in (both games), defenders already losing their speed & concentration.
I just wish Lionel S had picked better choices at CB and GK behind the first choices. We need to sharpen finishing, counters, up the aggression in midfield. There is no doubt Uruguay and Colombia (Brazil if they wake up) are the dangers. Particularly the first two. They will bunker and be aggressive in the press and have the weapons to hurt on the counter unlike Chile last night. I don't think we can carry di Maria or Messi together now. Impact substitutions for 40 minutes for Angelito or a half where he is told to give it his all similar tothe French game. Messi too. Maybe an hour or even bring him on when the game is getting stretched and there is more space. Maybe heretical to many but he doesn't look as sharp as he was at the WC. Perhaps a consequence of playing in the MLS. --------------------------------------Rulli-------------------------------------------- Montiel-----------Quarta------------------Otamendi------------Acuna------ --------------------------------Palacios/Guido (half/half----------------------- -----------------Fernandez(c)----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------Lo Celso------------------------ --------------Garnacho--------------------------------------di Maria/Nico G (half-half) --------------------------------Alvarez/Martinez (half-half)------------------
To be honest, I dont think the pre 2021 team would managed to get a late winner in this type of game. Either we'd have down 0-1 or a stalemate at best. Our current squad just have that extra gear. Even if the goal dont come till last quarter of the game, the team remain determined. Saw this on IG lol
Don't know why rdp has to be untouchable for 90 mins. Palacios should have came on. Romero under zero pressure gave away a pass when he had million options. That launched Chile into a frenzy for like 10 minutes which we couldn't control. That was the time to take out rdp who was done. Imo he hustled as usual but horrific passing and his energy goes down second half
Messi is going to rest vs Peru Leo Messi contó que está bien. Va a descansar contra Perú y juega los cuartos de final.— Gastón Edul (@gastonedul) June 26, 2024
We would have lost the game in one of the Chile counters for sure... seen that game so many times in the past. Can't thank God enough for Dibu, not only is he world class, he's clutch as hell.
This is so true. Comparing the games in 2018 to now, the current team's mentality is a lot stronger now and we can withstand any hardships. We know that even if we take a hit, we will get back up and fight.
Man, now that Scaloni is going to field a team with non starters it's really bothering me that some players are not there. Namely Musso, Balerdi, Barco and Varela. I guess we'll see the last game for Armani in the seleccion. And hopefully for Pezzella as well.
I have never seen an international team so adaptive, and one that marries football a la Menotti and a la Bilardo so seamlessly. You want a fight, they're here for it. You want to play beautiful football, they're all the more up to the task. I will never question Scaloni. Never do you see panic out of the players, and when you incorporate new players, even within a match, it may take a little time for them to get up to full speed, but they at least understand what the assignment is. In prior generations, I would have been deathly afraid that they lose last night from a silly counter. Even if they had gone down, I would have had full confidence that they would get the result. I just hope they can convince Scaloni to stay on for the long haul. And even if he goes, to replace him with someone that can build on this program. If they do, I feel that facing the scary prospects of replacing the likes of Messi and DiMaria at the same time, will be a little less daunting.
