The biggest issue is trippier at left back, immobile and right footed and that means Nono e works the line when foden comes inside

rice can’t overlap because u can’t leave taa in the middle

it’s a mess. A better team beats us no question

same old defensive shape after scoring inviting pressure. Southgate is a moron

I'd play Rice as 8 - even though he is also the best 6

One problem is the lack of any decent passer in central midfield

    Wharton can do that job

I think we need to go 343 and have some proper width

I’ve suggested this formation and grouping as it alleviates all the weaknesses but means we can’t necessarily have as much of the ball

    …………Kane
    ……Jude…….foden
    Saka…rice…Gallagher..taa
    …guehi..stones..Walker
    ……………Pickford

Will never happed but I'd dump Kane and play Foden as a false 9.

Kane looked old, was just there and not really involved.

I totally agree. Width and Foden goes central. Gallagher and Rice for steel.

Saka is just a level above. Can do it for Arsenal, can do it for England.

We had no left sided player on the pitch

it was a black hole. Foden and trippier, might as well of not put any one on the left in the lineups

Are those full game stats? If so, they would include Bowen too, no? I didn’t really watch the game, but I think I saw he had a cross to Kane that probably produced a similar xG number to saka’s cross to Bellingham?

p.s. On stats that list xG in the 3 channels, does xG factor in where the play originated from, not just where the shooter was when he struck the ball? I'm assuming yes.

Just watched highlights. ROM seemed in a romping kinda mood. Could they be a dark horse? Or maybe UKR was just bad??

p.s. Lineups showed Zinchenko playing as LB rather than in MF. If that's true it's slightly interesting perhaps, given the debate that we've been having about his best position?

Apparently Foden can only play football if Pep's complex system is uploaded to his footballing brain

I really get so bored of the pundit class these days.

It's amazing how all these elite players at the best clubs in europe are suddenly accused of lacking mentality the minute they have to play for their country - see for example

    Havertz
    Gundogan
    Foden
    Ozil
    Saka
    etc etc

BTW - the german pundit class have suddenly realised that the guy who is the most decorated german midfielder ever and up there in the conversation with Beckenbauer and Matthaus might actually be good at football.

    Who are you referring to?

They obviously rate Kroos, so I'm thinking Gundogan?

No they have weirdly hated/underrated Kroos ever since he left Bayern

man, belgium is a mess. Absolutely no ball players in the midfield. Gotta get Tielemans on the field, I think. Onana/Mangala duo cannot make a forward pass. Trossard has been garbage as well - has an open net from outside the box and a wide open Lukaku to roll it to, but played it over the bar.

    Oh my sweet summer child

Only a few years ago Hoeness and co were slagging kroos off as not fitting in with modern football

And of course all problems would be solved by the younger Bayern golden boy Kimmich finally being handed the midfield.

But Gundo is another one that somehow isn't good enough to play for germany despite being one of the best midfielders in europe for years

Also, Martinez is inexplicably playing Doku on the right.

For real though, honestly only Germany and Spain have been convincing so far, right? Level of play has been pretty bad, it feels like the weaker Euro teams are weaker this time around than usual*

    *Romania excepted
