Seriously, any Canadian fans keeping an eye on the Mexico match must be pulling their hair out at this shoddy performance so far.
Feel bad for Canada, they actually are holding up their end, just not getting help in the other game. Gotta perform away from home though. In this round over the last 3 cycles Canada has played 9 away games and only has 4 points in them, and that one win was a 1 goal squeaker against Cuba. That wont cut it
if mexico plays like this in the azteca there is no reason we should expect less than a point off them. Granted there is very obviously nothing at stake here but, nonetheless, they are possession without a purpose
Only 1 yellow for Mexico tonight. All players will be eligible for the Estados Unidos vs. Estados Unidos showdown in November.
The USA could have frozen Mexico out of a WC bid had they played like Mexico did tonight. I don't like seeing talented teams take that much off of the gas.
Mexico did a solid here for the Catrachos. Let's not play Pulisic against Honduras. They'd break him for good.
Not high on Honduras, I think Panama has a decent shot at #4 this year, biggest obstacle is San Pedro Sula is so damn tough to play in, which could steal Honduras a few extra points. Early is prediction is I think the US, Costa Rica, and Mexico all qualify with a game to spare, T&T is the doormat, and Panama just barely edges out Honduras for 4th
Also looking at Asia, CONCACAF isn't facing New Zealand this year. The top 3 teams in both groups are pretty damn respectable, and could provide a really tough playoff for Honduras or Panama, frankly if it's Japan or South Korea they'd be underdogs
But this is against Honduras, putting the foot on the gas could result in a broken leg. Mex were in the "no cards, no injuries" mindset for the most part.
I see Panama & T&T duking it out for 5th place. Both are respectable CONCACAF opponents and their improvement over the years have raised the level of competition within the confederation, but neither are fortresses at home. They will drop points. And as shown by Jamaica, recent good performance in Gold Cup does not always translate to WCQ.
I feel pretty confident. We've made Nacional a fortress and are playing fairly decently. Panama came up with a B team, but we also rested 7 starters. The difference between their second tier and ours was plain to see. I think we'll see the usual suspects take the Top 4 spots, and any of them can take the Asia play off. I'd love to see Panama make a WC, though. Of course, at someone other than CR's expense
I do have to say I'm worried about March. Azteca and SPS. 2 points would make me more than happy. It's nice to get those out of the way early, but I hope we don't take a hit on our confidence. Momentum matters.
Seems pretty clear who the top three will be. I need to see more from Honduras before assuming they can hold off Panama.
Lol... Hart has made T&T look respectable. Crazy, considering the amount of mud that was thrown on his name for his time as HC of Canada.
Last time someone made this assumption, The Hex finished with CR, US, Hon, Mex in that order... I'll stave off from making any statements.
