I've started and quit playing Hattrick a number of times. I never seem to understand the point of a football sim that isn't using real player data. Can anyone explain? The manager games I do end up playing all use real data because imho the players are such an integral part of the game that they cannot be exchanged for random data.
It's a game, there doesn't have to be a point, it's just supposed to be fun. I understand what you're saying, but for me playing the game, the "fake" players you get a bit of that "real player" idea, you just devote yourself to your team. It also helps when you have friends that you can talk about it with, it gives it a bit more real feel to it. There are a lot of hattrickers in KC that I talk with at Wizards games and it helps in the process. The players you have do become integral as you play them and have them on your team for a while.
he needs it, he just think were his friend but seriously that's the reason why i'm still playing so i can talk to mike and others we know. just wish i had the time and energy to make our kc forum more active.
If I didn't have to pay I would be on there. For the first time in about 10 seasons, probably longer, I have a real chance to promote. I may have to MOTS in week one to do it!
I am a huge FM fan but not having Ht would kill me. It is my fantasy dream team. It's not much I know but I am hooked. IMO the game has improved alot in the last year which has sucked me in more.
Well it looks like I am not the only one playing cm-online at least, noobs are pouring in and it is actually real fun watching them learn
To grow a team. You can't really take actual players up from youth and shape them into the players you want to have on your team unless you're an actual coach. That's the appeal for me. It's fun to manage the youth and elderly on the team and plan for the future in terms of having players turn into coaches and trainees turning into starters.
I'm really enjoying my hattrick right now. I've been playing for 3 years, and I think I am at a point where I'm very comfortable with the game and interface. A real turning point, for me, was when they sharpened up the transfer list. It's much, much easier to search for possible transfers now, and I like that.
Point? Point? What's the point of living? My team is a POS, bobbing up and down between V and VI. I'm better than that, though . . . Point? I dunno.
For me the point of football manager games is to make interesting tactical and strategical choices. What the point with the game hattrick is, is less clear to me For those that like graphics, hattrick is inferior to the 2D and 3D games that are available. Personally the graphical part isn't that important. But looking at tactical relevance, a game like ww.freekick.org is superior. It's harder to get into and doesn't have the "progress quest" feature that hattrick seem to dazzle many users with, but the football feeling and relevance of making advanced match settings to overcome your opponent is unmatched in this querky game. When I found it I was surprised that it only has 22k users. On the other hand I prefer games that are more about content and less about marketing.
Ok. My point is: why play a football management game with make believe players, rather than just play a "real" strategy game instead?
Because the "real" strategy games with "real" players are mostly focused on the thrill of owning "real" players instead of the tactical part of football.
Perhaps some are, but not CM-Online. Quite the opposite in fact. I'd never trade it for a make believe game
I was a while since I tried CM, but then it seems there were a horde of skills for each player. Some may say that this is a sign of the game being tactically advanced, but from what I deducted it seemed that you needed several of these skills to do one thing with the player, which meant that you needed high in many to be good at one thing (like dribbling the ball from one side to another). If that is still the case, then it's an example where the player quality and impact is fuzzy (imo) and makes tactical choices hard.
if you want a "real" soccer game perhaps you guys should go outside and kick the ball around but HT is great because you can spend as much or as little time as you have each week and yes its not overly technical but has enough long-term tactical stuff to keep you interested.
Are you sure it's not a way to get your details online so spammers and scammers can run amok? Think about it. Hattrick is the only game ever to ask for such intrusive details as a mandatory thing to get the much needed Manager License. Now, do you see this in other games? No. Not one game apart from Hattrick has asked me for my details. Diagnosis? WHY DO YOU NEED THEM HT!? And so i am suspicious they want it so they can pass it on to scammers. Reasoning with a GM doesn't help, "What's the fairness in allowing users through without adequate checks?" he said, whereas i think adequate checks is IP address. Many other games are doing just fine without asking for intrusive details. That's what my theory is. Hattrick acts suspicious...
FYP, I know two former GM's for hattrick, you're being overly suspicious yourself. Besides if you're that suspicious, set up a dummy/old email address that you only use sparingly to sign up for. That's what I do for most things I sign up for online.
Only they ask for much more than an email address (besides which i simply signed up to gmail for those purposes), Full Name? Address? And oi, no mis-interpreting my post thinking it's a conspiracy
You can always get away with putting in false information, it's not like they send a letter to you hose to make sure you live there...
