Sounds like Netenyahu is working towards some sort of cease fire so as to “gift” Trump an early political victory as he takes office…. of course that just means the cruelty and efficiency of the killing might ramp up soon to get those last kills in..then Trump can get praise and the world can go in and see how thorough Israel was and be mad at them for their savagery for 28 hours or so In the meantime Trump can keep sending the House and Senate on “Recess” so his lackeys can take their new positions without any pesky Senate Confirmation hearings.
Also, it is surely obvious by now that Bibi simply does not care what his US ally wants. His calculus is always domestic and personal. And Trump doesn't need any political victories.
I do understand stuff like the climate movement which has used social action to build a broad support with Gen Z - but if you don't actually activate those people as voters, either for green, or within centre left and right parties, then its a complete waste of time. Like by the 90s sustainability had broad bi-partisan support due to that sort of work.
Dubya was a terrible president and his rehabilitation during the Trump era is something I will never get on board with.
I have talked about this is another topic, to me it depends on who we are talking about here. If it is a progressive voter with no skin in the game who voted Trump or stayed home to spite Harris, then yeah, they deserve ridicule and contempt. On the other hand, for those people with a direction connection to Gaza, I feel like folks are kind of lacking in empathy. You are expecting people who have seen their families and friends be displaced and bombed and in some cases die for the past year. Is it fair to expect a completely detached, rational and sober reaction?
My theory: Why & how did he win re-election? For better or worse, he knew how to handle 9/11. Imagine if he was having a temper tantrum about the fake news, 9/11 being a plant by the liberal media, etc etc. Compare that to a certain someone in 2020 regarding COVID. I also subscribe to the "Domino Effect Theory" or the "Back To The Future Theory" or whatever you want to call it, where one action can have major effects on things later on down. If John Kerry wins, we don't get Obama, which means we absolutely don't get Trump vs Clinton. (I heard that Hillary was promised 2008 *until* Barack Obama got all sorts of momentum. She was told to lay off until Barack was finished, then she'd be next up.)
Back then, Donald Trump seemed to just be a New York businessman with a huge sum of money who would shoot the shit with Howard Stern every once in a while.
By starting two needless wars that killed I don't know how many people? Whilst ignoring the many operational and money trails that could be traced back to Saudi Arabia.
This timeline began with Florida 2000. To my death, I will insist that's when everything started to go to hell.
Yeah, but if he blamed the liberal media, George Soros or whatever the hell else and denied 9/11 being as horrific as it was, things would have been a LOT different when he was running for re-election.
Brown v Board is where it started. That's what got the people in power now moving. And W won reelection because he despises gay people and rallied his base to hate them too. Let's not forget the psychological effect of all the damn daily terror alerts. Straight out of V for Vendetta. There's a fun level of hell waiting for him, as he deserves.
If you’re gonna go back that far…you may as well go back to the time where it was decided to create a union with people who thought it was ok to own other people.
You could, but honestly I feel that's the turning point. Before that they could own an apartheid state and not truly mingle with black people and other minorities. That really started the dominoes falling and gave them a rallying cry. I know I wasn't around then (my mom barely was), but all my reading into things certainly leads me to believe that is the inflection point. Right after getting told their kids have to go to school with ******, you get Loving and now it's ok for a black man to **** a white woman (ie marry)? Now they can vote? Abortions are ok? The biggest villain came out of all these changes, which is Heritage. They've been kicking around planning and causing trouble as a reaction to these decisions. Other groups came along shortly after and they spawned dozens of smaller, similar organizations with more focused goals. Infecting everything. They got Ronnie elected and set his agenda. Nixon's many crimes, repeated by fellow Republicans over and over, mind (never punished), showed there was wiggle room in how they operate. Fast forward 50 years and here we are.
The decision not to hang every signatory of state secession declarations would also be a place to start.
True, though I'd argue they got most of what they wanted a few years later vis a vie Jim Crow. And that lasted damn near a century. You can always go back further, I just think this point is where things went off the rails and we can see direct lines from a to b all the way to Heritage and their ilk, who were not shy about why they exist, to now.
Like Superdave constantly touting Nixonland, my repeated recommendation is Foner's Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution.
