If Trump does half the stuff he says he will (and with Trump who knows) it certainly will be painful for most. I don't know who will be be main beneficiary of Trump's largess - there are a number of conflicting groups hungry for the power Turmp has. But it won't be the little people. All the groups around Trump (fascist ideologues, the religious, economic revanchists, and the criminal financial class) don't want to give anything - they only want to take.

 

No. Americans are willing to trade their democracy over the price of eggs (and some obsessions about Venezuelan gangs). It is that simple.

So how exactly is Trump going to deport them? A large scale return to countries of origin would require a massive diplomatic effort, one that the Trump admin has neither the inclination nor the nous for. So this will turn into a situation where x amount of people are stuck in camps indefinitely.

 

The funny thing about that is that the two key Nevada voter issues according to exit polls were the economy and democracy. And then Trump won the state. The American electorate is wholly divorced from reality.

 

Well, yeah, they will. But Trump promised he will make it a paradise for the "real Americans" and the Americans bought it hook, line and sinker. Because, hey, everyone thinks HE/SHE is a real American.

 

I'm guessing it then needs to be interpreted as an expression of the lie (peddled by Apartheid Clyde among others) that if the Dems won this would be the final true and fair election.

Hence once again, utterly divorced from reality.

Well unfortunately in the short term, it's going to be religious minorities and the LGBTQ+ community that will suffer the most. I do think that even most avid Trump supporters will eventually come to regret this, though it might take longer. Their background might shield them - for a while at least - from the most nefarious effects of American style White supremacist authoritarianism.

 

The "I told you so" moment is not going to happen.

 

Yes it will. Trump's tariffs will cause prices of goods to rise and his anti-foreign rhetoric will deter investors and workers and cause the price of labor to rise. And if he doesn't carry out these plans then we can say he was scared by the repercussions.

Just because these idiots won't listen to the "I told you so" doesn't mean it won't happen.

Enjoy the jump in the stock market while it lasts. If Trump does even half of what he claims he'll do he is going to crash the economy. But I think that is by design. That will make his authoritarian takeover much easier.

Well...a new day and I'll keep helping people. That federal grant I was hoping to get in a couple years is gone almost for sure which means my job is gone which means....job hunting with a bunch of similarly placed people also being laid off.

Now if you want to argue that those people are never going to admit that their decline in quality of life can be linked to their Trump vote, then yes, but that is more of the same delusion. Not the fact that they will not feel a material difference to their lives.
