    That result for the Gals has MLS Cup implications as well. As it stands, the only team from the East that would have home field against them is Miami. Columbus could change that, but L.A. controls their destiny in that regard.

    Agreed. MLS doesn’t do automatic three-gamers for SFP or VC, but I think they’ll have something to say for this one.

    I'm not overly confident the Galaxy will make it out of the first round. There's a decent chance it could be LA v Portland - personally I would favor the Timbers to win that match-up.

    It wouldn't surprise me if he gets a 2-game suspension, which would take him into next year.

    Nobody wants to match Portland in the West.

    The Galaxy narrative of unbeaten home record has them fattened up for a bad ending… either a loss to the Timbers or yet another eventual crash and burn against LA Frogs Club

    Colorado has lost 4 of 5 since clinching their playoff spot. They need 3 points to avoid the play-in game and I'm not sure they can pull a win out in Austin so they'll be hoping for Vancouver, Portland, and/or Minnesota to drop points.

    I hope they throw the big book at Biro..

    -malicious tackle, a Steve Zakuani career ending special that just failed to connect. He has been a hot head most of the season

    -threw a punch at someone on the bench

    - as he exited through the tunnel he got into it with a fan, might have spit in that direction (though fans can also be pretty vicious and may have baited an even greater escalation from Birdo)

    I think under the Argentinian 3 season performance system Toronto are officially relegated.

    I was curious to see how each (possible) playoff team has done in their last 11 games (1/3 of the season) going into today's games; Colorado holds up fairly well. Cincinnati is the absolute worst (2-2-7 in their last 11), which is a ray of hope for Philadelphia. I had expected Portland to have done better as well.

    West (in ppg)
    Seattle = 2.27
    LA Galaxy = 2.18
    Houston & Minnesota = 1.82
    Colorado = 1.45
    LAFC, Vancouver & Portland = 1.36
    RSL = 1.18

    East (in ppg)
    Orlando = 2.27
    Miami = 2.18
    DC = 1.82
    Columbus = 1.64
    Montreal = 1.55
    Charlotte & Philadelphia = 1.45
    Atlanta = 1.18
    NYC = 1.09
    NYRB = 1.00
    Cincinnati = 0.73

    I'd be interested in seeing Seattle's first v. second half season performances over the last ten years.

    The top 4 seeds in the Eastern Conference are settled.

    1. Miami
    2. Columbus
    3. Cincinnati
    4. Orlando

    Charlotte, New York City and New York Red Bulls are jockeying for positions 5-6-7. DC United and Montreal control their own fates on Decision Day. All both teams need is a draw to qualify. If one or both lose, it opens the door for Philadelphia and/or Atlanta to step into the 8th or 9th spots.

    All playoff teams in the Western Conference are known. Seeding is to be sorted out. The top 4 cannot change, but their order can be altered (L.A. Galaxy, LAFC, Seattle, Real Salt Lake). Same can be said for teams 5-9 with numerous possibilites for final placement for those 5 teams (Houston, Colorado, Minnesota, Vancouver, Portland).

    11 (or 10) games takes you back to pre-Leagues Cup which at least for the Rapids was when things changed. Going all 7 games in the Cup run put too many minutes on our legs and that's why they've lost 4 of the last 5. We were averaging 2 goals per game before that, we've scored 4 in those 5 (and 2 were at home to a bad TFC).

    Post-League’s Cup is the more reasonable metric, agreed.

    RSL was playing like shite before that too.

    Here are the numbers since Leagues Cup. There's a big drop-off in the West after LA, Seattle & Minnesota, with Colorado pretty much middle of the rest of the playoff West and even with Portland. RSL & Vancouver are really struggling. Houston is the one in the West with the big drop after Leagues Cup.

    West (in ppg)
    LA Galaxy = 2.43
    Seattle = 2.38
    Minnesota = 2.00
    LAFC & Houston = 1.38
    Colorado & Portland = 1.29
    RSL & Vancouver = 1.13

    East (in ppg)
    Miami & Orlando = 2.25
    Columbus = 1.89
    DC = 1.75
    Montreal = 1.63
    Charlotte = 1.38
    NYC = 1.29
    Philadelphia = 1.25
    Atlanta = 1.13
    Cincinnati = 1.00
    NYRB = 0.75

    Good thing Minnesota doesn’t have home field “advantage.” They would have no chance if they finished top 4. :p

    Austin has already fired coach Wolf..
    lack of discipline in the pack last night might be part of the issue, but to not allow the courtesy of finishing the season…

    Druissi has struggled but as always its the pieces that affect that success, curious to see where Precourt takes the franchise to next

    Outside of Brian Mullan’s assassination of Zakuani’s leg, I can’t think of a worse tackle in MLS. I’m sure there are equally atrocious, vindictive, violent fouls, but it’s hard to surpass that. I mean, the match was for all practical purposes over.
