The thing is these are people who actively supported overthrowing fair election results. They aren't Romney or Reagan Republicans*, they're people who literally came to DC, got people killed, and hurt because of Donald Trump. And when you experience something like that in a place you call your own home, I can imagine one isn't going to be a fan of seeing THAT type of person in their own neighborhood. I mean, for God's sake, one of the resident's husband wanted to quote, "Drag Pelosi out of her office by her ankles." This isn't an outsider, it's a group of people who supported an insurrection. All because of a slumlord from Queens.

The other thing to keep in mind is that these same people probably spent time speaking negatively of cities and the towns surrounding it. But will happily enjoy the amenities provided. Hawley may have been friendly to them, but he doesn't want to live among them.

These aren't people that deserve compassion and tolerance. And living in a city where you aren't exactly going to be popular is a choice I will say is ballsy.

*: Romney and Reagan are awful, but at least Romney can respect election results. Reagan? Maybe.

Did you read the article? Because your version of events has a different order than is presented in the article.

HINT: which came first, the journos’ reaction, or them learning who those people are?

I read the article and the one associated with it.

They aren't outsiders nor is an immigrant thing.

Reagan did his own election shenanigans to win. Learned well from Nixon. I don't think he'd ever have the stomach for the wanton violence Trump does. Letting violence of circumstance, sure (see HIV for an example).

The simple fact is, when you are the establishment majority, you don't need to do a coup or electoral violence - you in fact do not want that stuff.

IMO the most important shift is that where Reagan was able to win significant majorities, GOP elites have given up on the idea that they can achieve their agenda by democratic means. So suddenly they are all in love with Natcon which wants to use the power of the state to impose extreme policies on to the majority.

This is not any kind of traditional conservative idea.
