🚨 Ipswich Town working on deal to sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal. #ITFC very close to securing agreement with #AFC & 24yo winger on season-long loan - no option or obligation to buy. Chance to depart helped by potential Raheem Sterling deal @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/LTBceFTanE— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) August 30, 2024
My guess is he is taking a bit of a cut and the rest is split between Arsenal and Chelsea but we will see.
From arsenal.com Ins David Raya (Brentford) - permanent Riccardo Calafiori (Bologna) - permanent Mikel Merino (Real Sociedad) - permanent Neto (Bournemouth) - loan Outs Emile Smith Rowe - Fulham Aaron Ramsdale - Southampton Mohamed Elneny - Al Jazira Cedric Soares - released Arthur Okonkwo - Wrexham Fabio Vieira - Porto (loan) Sambi Lokonga - Sevilla (loan) Nuno Tavares - Lazio (loan) Karl Hein - Real Valladolid (loan)
Chelsea sorting out their attacking options by unloading Sterling...oops they just brought in Sancho on loan with an obligation to buy. Insanity. But another sign Sterling is close

GK Raya (28), Setford (18) Loan (in): Neto (35) Loan (out): Hein (22) Raya is the #1. With Neto cup tied, will Setford get a chance in the Carabao Cup? Can Hein have a productive loan and come back to be #2? I doubt it. Garcia gets a season to develop at Espanyol, will the release clause still be in effect next summer and do Arsenal pay it? Defenders Tierney (27), Zinchenko (27), White (26), Gabriel (26), Tomiyasu (25), Kiwior (24), Saliba (23), Timber (23), Calafiori (22), Heaven (17) Loan (out): Tavares (24) - Obligation to buy Expect Tierney to leave in January if he can pass a physical. Tomiyasu's injury has kept Kiwior around, at least for now. Will be interesting how the rotation shakes out as Calafiori works his way into the squad. Don't see incomings until next summer when Arteta will buy a defender because that's what he does. Midfielders Jorginho (32), Partey (31), Merino (28), Odegaard (25), Rice (25), Lewis-Skelly (17), Nwaneri (17) Loan (out): Sambi Lokonga (24), Vieira (24) Still don't feel great about this area, especially with Merino out 6-8 weeks. How will Partey hold up? I'm don't think they would have resigned Jorginho if they knew Partey would still be around. Big opportunity for Nwaneri to step up. Could require an addition in January if there are injuries. Don't see a path back for Sambi. Slim chance for Vieira to come back but I don't see it. With Partey and Jorginho out of contract, this is an area of huge need next summer. I'm keeping an eye on Wharton and how he develops. Don't see Zubimendi happening. Forwards Trossard (29), Jesus (27), Havertz (25), Martinelli (23), Saka (22) Loan (in): Sterling (29) Loan (out): Nelson (24) My expectation is that it's just the one season for Sterling. Maybe he loves it and takes a pay cut to stay. Can Jesus stay healthy or do Arsenal have to move on next summer? Hopefully Nelson gets the playing time he really needs in west London. After not spending this summer, surely Arteta has the war chest to sign a big ticket forward next summer, right? Right? Let's say Isak has another 20g season but Newcastle fail to qualify for UCL, will he push for an exit? Not optimistic about Nico Williams.
I don't see Hein playing for us again. has potential to be a solid starter but doesn't have the distribution for us. Will be interesting to see how the youngsters develop. With Raya the likely starter for atleast a couple more years, I could see us loaning in a vet #2 each season to save money, especially if some of the young GKers we just signed start to pan out. Think there is a very high probability that atleast 2 (possibly all) of KT, OZ, Tomi & Kiwior is sold by next summer. Likely that we add a CB that can play both CB spots. Unless they miraculously stay healthy, I think there is a high probability we add to this group in Jan. Even if they do it may make sense given we will likely be replacing both Jorge & Partey next summer. Adding 1 in Jan would keep us from having to find 2 in the summer. Agree on Sambi & Vieira. Think they are both in the shop window this season. Depending on how Marti plays this season, I could see a scenario where we are replacing Trossard, Jesus & Sterling next summer. Would love to see Isak but I wonder if we would spend big on him if Havertz can pull off a 20g season?
I’m warming slightly to this Sterling business. But only because we’re a bit desperate, having shipped out several attackers, not buying anybody new, and 2 new injuries in the first week. I’ve never liked him much but I’m gonna now attempt to get super positive and optimistic about Raheem.
