That's nice and all and would be the ideal scenario even for CPL but it won't happen. We don't make the rules nor is it up to us to set the dates for CCC. That why complaining about scheduling is something so useless. MLS fans have learned the hard way. Whatever LC and CCC schedule is, that's it. If it changes, good, if it doesn't just enjoy the ride. Leagues/clubs just need to find ways to overcome it. Also LC isn't going anywhere unless it stops making money. Same way Mexican NT won't stop playing in the US unless they stop making money or Liga MX won't stop playing their friendlies in the US unless they too stop making money. How can anyone convince the Liga MX/Mexico fans to stop going to any games here in the US? You can't.
I think Leagues Cup has a contract till 2027. Liga MX and MLS will evaluate after that if they continue with it or not depending on how successful it is.
Even more revenue added. https://markets.ft.com/data/announce/detail?dockey=600-202404020902PR_NEWS_USPRX____NY76536-1
I’m a Rapids fan too, but don’t post a lot. There’s a Rabbi who lives in Pittsburgh who is a Rapids fan and would probably make it to Dayton. Pittsburgh is right near Ohio.
Jay Sugarman, owner of the Philadelphia Union is worth an estimated 353 million dollars. Asking owners that run a business to increase revenue and run a business in the black is also reasonable.
FIFA has reached an agreement to be removed as a defendant in a U.S. antitrust lawsuit that could pave the way for foreign leagues to stage games in the United States and around the world.@melanieanzidei, @AdamCrafton_ & @PaulTenorio on what it means:https://t.co/oGrpU9bMFH pic.twitter.com/odfN0OgpAR— The Athletic (@TheAthletic) April 9, 2024 Nothing to do with Leagues Cup but if this goes through expect to see Liga MX to play a lot of regular season games in the US. Would fans complain about travel? Nope! They sure won't.
Why stop there? If the governance of the sport gets undermined the next logical step would be a Liga MX club in Los Angeles.
Because it is FIFA that doesn't permit it. Maybe prior to MLS it could've worked. Liga MX just never had the vision or ambition of doing something like that. Big missed opportunity.
The point is, if the current FIFA delegated authority to sanction games is taken away from the USSF, then it’s not a stretch to suggest that the sanctioning of US based teams is the next legal frontier. Commercial interests seek to undermine FIFA’s governance all over the world. It may (sadly) soon become a “free for all” like in other sports. PS: Quite certain Liga MX did look at US based clubs once upon a time. There was rumours to this effect. Hence the above comment.
Or attending the UEFA Champions League Final in a US Stadium. Actually they'd probably start with either the UEFA Super Cup, or the Conference League Final. Possibly make it a week long thing with one game semifinals followed by the Final later that week.
There’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. I stopped joining the pile on when someone sent me to a poker message board where there was a thread or two about how he behaved in trying to sign poker players and become their agents. After that I realized he has issues.
You can't have a domestic league with no borders. I don't see what difference it makes to a super league. You have a Champions League equivalent in each confederation which plays across borders. You have the ICC and other off season competitions. You already have teams playing domestic non-league games overseas like the Italian SuperCoppa. This only makes a difference to domestic league competitions like the Premier League, La Liga, Liga MX etc.
