Mod Note: 2018 season is coming upon us, so let the attendance discussion begin!! The reported attendance vs perceived attendance rule remains in effect.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone start up next season's thread - there is already news!

Out > 10k streak will be broken this season as DC United will play at least one game at the SoccerPlex.

I am pretty certain the capacity won't be increased for this year. It should be the same 22k range this year.

Just wait until year 2...oh wait year 3.
Is that what everyone will say now? This year is going to be over 50k average.

I was wondering about that as I vaguely remember reading that this offseason was just setting up the foundations, but MLS decided to tag their schedule announcement video on Facebook with "Stadium re-opening on April 14 vs. Chicago; Capacity expanded to 25,000+".

That is odd. Everything I had read and heard was the new addition would not be open until 2019 season. If they have that completed by April that is some insane construction time line as they didn't start until November. I don't think that graphic from MLS is correct.

This article says April of 2019

Can someone from Portland weigh in?

I've long advocated an aggressive sales policy for ATL, but this is beyond I had expected. I'm guessing it means they will open a quarter of the top deck on weekdays on one sideline and at least half of it on weekends.

We'll get a real good baseline number for Rapids season tickets this year. Nobody is going to show up for the CCL match against Toronto at 8pm on a weeknight in February, barring a global warming warm stretch earlier that week, but every Rapids season ticket holder is getting a free ticket for the game. So whatever number is announced for that game is going to be pretty close to the season ticket number.

They were doing support work over this break. Nothing has been built up.

I think there has been a mistake/confusion over Portland. The 25k is not going to be completed for this season. It will be next. This season will be another 21k.

Has Atlanta announced 4 full stadium games or is that a guess?

This offseason is all subsurface/foundation work, and setting up the infrastructure so that they can start building the over-the-ground stuff ASAP after this upcoming season ends. This season's capacity will be the same as the last couple years. I would post pictures in the stadium construction thread, but literally it is just people digging holes in the ground right now.

I have explained this twice yet people are still posting 25k for this season...maybe they will eventually figure it out.

It might have something to do with your join date. Certain posters on here have built up their reputations (good and bad) on here over the years, so people are less likely to take the posts of someone who just joined this week as gospel. Don't take it personally.

Naw. I blame MLS. If they hadn’t said the Timbers would have 25k capacity, it wouldn’t have been an issue.

Heck, nobody takes me seriously and I've been part of Big Soccer Nation since the Roosevelt Administration.

That's Teddy, not Franklin if you're scoring at home.

I think FC Dallas's HOF addition is supposed to be completed towards the end of the season. So that means the smaller 16K size will be there most or all of this year. next year it should go back up to 20-22K.

Then rest of the teams will have to pick up the pace to make up the 4,000k, that would lower the average to 22,284 if it's 21,114 vs. 25,000
    and
Not sure, just going with the games being played on FOX as why. They had two (three if you count the playoffs), so yes I guess it's a guess.

They're selling season tickets in the south end, and the south end seats were open (and full) for today's FCS Championship Game. Mind you, they're selling those seats for reduced prices, because the HOF and the club are still under construction:
