I disagree. These guys are all going to be (or at least should be) in mid-season form whereas those playing elsewhere are coming back during the off-season. I guess we'll have to see how it goes. I will say that the odds are stacked against them, given the draw in Group G.

Marco Urena perfected the Central American trick of schizophrenic play for the national side compared with the club side.

For his club side, he does a little dance, called the "MockUrena".

Less than a month away until Opening Day. Even less than that until the free FIFA 18 WC update.

Is it time yet to start preparing by firing up some Popkoff's pelmeni and vareniki and eating them with the appropriate condiments (soy sauce & bullion soup with the former, sour cream & melted butter with the latter)? :D

Perhaps even washing it down with some kvass, though probably not more than one bottle/glass for me since it's kinda "bready" (for lack of a better term). :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

My cousin just returned from vacation in Russia, where he tried to find WC memorabilia. Apparently no one is selling it. You have to wonder why they bothered bribing FIFA

Let's just pray Godoy gets selected for the final roster...for his sake and ours. He's only on the prelim 35 man roster...final cut date is June 4th.

They bribed FIFA to get the WC so the USA wouldn't get it....Still don't see how Qatar got the 2022 games....

I have a feeling Spain will do better.

Neither Godoy or Cummings have impressed me with the Quakes, If these guys are supposed to be our best World Cup players, you would think they would be contributing or making us better.

Perhaps, though I don't think it was a Russian company that was even licensed to produce the game. :D

I remember soon after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Russian hockey team briefly changed to predominantly blue before returning to red, albeit a different shade of red. I guess over the years they simply got used to having some shade of red.

Russia's 2014 World Cup primary jersey was certainly a darker shade of red...

... while its secondary jersey that year had quite a bit of blue.

Ironically, assuming he makes the World Cup roster, what if he lights it up in the tournament? :D

The U.S. initially bid simultaneously for both the 2018 and 2022 games hoping to get one of them, but then early on dropped out of the 2018 bid to concentrate solely on landing the 2022 games. That was separate from any issue of alleged "bribery".

If bribery was indeed involved in the bidding process then, this was the more likely of the two. After all, why choose an area in which the summer heat will be unbearable enough that FIFA is still seriously considering moving the games to later that year, among other things?

I know they want to play the Qatar 2022 tournament in December but I hear the English FA doesn't want to take participate as they will be losing out on their Boxing Day and New Years Day matches which bring n the most revenue both at the gate and TV. Not sure how that WC will turn out. They may have to schedule it in the summer afterall.

What ever happened to the air conditioned indoor stadia? I doubt they have even begun construction and the WC is only 4 years away.

I was thinking about that. Maybe he can land a better contract offer if he does. If the Quakes own his rights, they may be able to get some money for him. He would probably do better elsewhere but he is clearly not cutting this Scandinavian style or system.
